繁衍的蛇

洪水结束了，方舟也登陆了。

诺亚把所有的动物都放了出来，说：“去繁衍吧。”

几个月后，诺亚决定出去走走，看看动物们过得怎么样。他所到之地到处都看到小动物。除了一对小蛇之外，其他动物都过得很好。

“有什么问题吗？”诺亚问小蛇。

“砍掉一些树，好让我们住在那里。”蛇说。

诺亚听从了他们的建议。

又过了几个星期。诺亚再次查看蛇的情况。看到很多小蛇，大家都很开心。

诺亚问：“可以告诉我，树木对你们有什么帮助吗？”

“当然。”蛇说，“我们是蝰蛇。所以，我们需要木桩来繁衍。”

注：这是一则和数学有关的笑话。1）英语单词“Adder”有两个解释。一是“蝰蛇”，欧洲唯一有毒的一种蛇。另一是“加数字的人”，动词“Add（增加）”加后缀“er”的名词化。可以指人，也可以指物（加数器）。2）英语单词“Log”也有两个解释。一是“日志、登记簿”。另一是“锯成段的原木”。3）英语单词“Multiply”也有两个解释。一是“乘法、倍增”。另一是“繁衍、繁殖”。因此，“蝰蛇需要木桩来繁衍”是一个双关语，即，“加数字的人需要登记簿来做计算”。

原文： Multiplying Snakes

The Flood is over and the ark has landed。

Noah lets all the animals out and says：“Go forth and multiply。”

A few months later，Noah decides to take a stroll and see how the animals are doing。Everywhere he looks he finds baby animals。Everyone is doing fine except for one pair of little snakes。

“What's the problem？”says Noah。

“Cut down some trees and let us live there。”say the snakes。

Noah follows their advice。

Several more weeks pass。Noah checks on the snakes again。Lots of little snakes，everybody is happy。

Noah asks：“Want to tell me how the trees helped？”

“Certainly。”say the snakes，“We're adders，so we need logs to multiply。”
