一个男人和他的妻子吵了一架。然后，不辞而别地离家出走。

大约中午时分，他看到有家人在进行车库拍卖。他买了一个装调料酱的盘子。不过，那盘子很脏，积满了灰尘。于是，他就擦拭了一下。结果，一个精灵从一团紫色的烟雾中走了出来。

精灵说：“你擦了我的灯。现在，我可以满足你三个愿望。”

男人说：“我想要一辆跑车！”

“没问题。回家后，查看你的车库。”

“我想要一百万美元！”

“回家前，先检查一下你的银行账户。”

“在你许第三个愿望之前，”精灵说，“你应该知道，那里有一个附加条件。无论你得到什么，你的妻子都会得到它的双倍。”

男人想了一会儿，然后说：“我希望你能把我打个半死！”

A man has a fight with his wife and leaves the house abruptly。

It's about noon and he sees a garage sale。He buys a gravy boat but it's really dusty so he rubs it，whereupon a genie comes out in cloud of purple smoke。

The genie says：“you have rubbed my lamp，now I shall grant you three wishes。”

The man says：“I want a sports car！”

“It is so。Look in your garage when you get home。”

“I want a million dollars！”

“Check your bank account before you go home。”

“Before you make your third wish，”the genie says，“you should know that there is a catch。Whatever you get，your wife gets double。”

The man thinks to himself for a moment and then says：“I wish you'd beat me half to death！”
