一位纽约的离婚律师去世了。他来到了天堂之门。

圣·彼得问他：“你做了什么值得进入天堂的事？”

律师想了想，然后说：“一周前，我在街上给了一个无家可归的人一枚25美分硬币。”

圣·彼得让加布里埃尔去查找这事的记录。

过了一会儿，加布里埃尔确认，这事是真的。

圣·彼得说：“嗯。做得不错。但这还不足以让你进入天堂。”

律师说：“等等。还有更多！3年前，我也给过一个无家可归的人25美分。”

圣·彼得朝加布里埃尔点了点头。

过了一会儿，加布里埃尔也点点头。他确定，这事也得到了证实。

原文： New York Lawyer Dies

A New York Divorce Lawyer died and arrived at the pearly gates。

Saint Peter asks him：“What have you done to merit entrance into Heaven？”

The Lawyer thought a moment，then said：“A week ago，I gave a quarter to a homeless person on the street。”

Saint Peter asked Gabriel to check this out in the record，and after a moment Gabriel affirmed that this was true。

Saint Peter said：“Well，that's fine，but it's not really quite enough to get you into Heaven。”

The Lawyer said：“Wait Wait！There's more！Three years ago I also gave a homeless person a quarter。”

Saint Peter nodded to Gabriel，who after a moment nodded back，affirming this，too，had been verified。

Saint Peter then whispered to Gabriel：“Well，what do you suggest we do with this fellow？”

Gabriel gave the Lawyer a sidelong glance，then said to Saint Peter：“Let's give him back his 50 cents and tell him to go to Hell。”
