欧巴马总统在访问瑞典期间向拉乌尔•瓦伦贝里表示纪念。
欧巴马总统（左上）于9月4日访问瑞典期间抽时间访问了斯德哥尔摩（Stockholm）的犹太大教堂（Great Synagogue）和大屠杀纪念馆（Holocaust Memorial）。他在此处会见了妮娜•拉格尔格伦（Nina Lagergren，上图坐者），她是瑞典外交家拉乌尔•瓦伦贝里(Raoul Wallenberg)的同母异父妹妹。拉乌尔•瓦伦贝里在第二次世界大战（World War II）中拯救了被困在纳粹占领下的匈牙利的成千上万犹太人。
称自身有犹太祖先的瓦伦贝里作为瑞典派驻布达佩斯（Budapest）特使，当时曾将犹太人偷运至安全庇护所，并给他们颁发瑞典旅行证件。他后来在苏联拘押中去世。
欧巴马为出席这个场合戴了白色的亚莫克犹太圆顶帽。他在看了瓦伦贝里的日记、护照和照片之后说：“瓦伦贝里的一生向我们大家提出一个挑战，那就是即使很艰难，即使要冒极大风险，也要身体力行同情关爱的美德。”

During his visit to Sweden, President Obama takes time to honor the memory of Raoul Wallenberg.
During his visit to Sweden September 4, President Obama (above left) took time to visit the Great Synagogue and Holocaust Memorial in Stockholm. There he met with Nina Lagergren (shown seated above), half sister of Raoul Wallenberg, the Swedish diplomat who rescued tens of thousands of Jews caught in Nazi-occupied Hungary during World War II.
As Sweden’s special envoy in Budapest, Wallenberg, who himself claimed Jewish ancestry, protected Jews by smuggling them into safe houses and by issuing them Swedish travel documents. He later died while in Soviet custody.
After viewing Wallenberg’s diary, passport and photos, Obama, who had donned a white yarmulke for the occasion, said: “Wallenberg’s life is a challenge to us all — to live those virtues of empathy and compassion, even when it’s hard, even when it involves great risk.”
