1、不要加入任何政府行政组织,任何政府权利都是自由思想的羁绊;
2、不要试图以形容词、副词、叹词等来强调情感,那样很笨拙,也很低级;
3、不要第一时间迎合大多数人的观点,因为大多数情况下大多数人并不是大多数人;
4、有人赞同你的观点时,不要沾沾自喜,恰恰相反,要警惕自己是否已经滑进了哗众取宠的落寞心态,是否步入了群氓狂欢的界限;
5、不要与品行下贱的人交往,否则付出十倍的代价也难以清除下贱的人留下的灰尘;
6、任何妥协都会伤害自尊,任何强取都会心力交瘁,但勇于放弃却会一劳永逸地使对方彻底陷入贪婪的惯行。还有什么比纵容贪婪一恶更容易摧毁这种人吗?
7、不要赞美愚蠢的言行、不入流的诗作,因为这些愚蠢和平庸的因素迟早会深入你的体内,难以辨识;
8、与其愤怒地表达对肮脏、龌龊作品的厌恶,不如一言不发,因为那表示你距离它并不遥远,而且写出令你反感内容的人一定会享受你对他的厌恶;
9、即使独处并不令人愉悦,也一定要做到学会沉默,只有舞台上的小丑在左言右顾;
10、不要忘记对平等、公正、真实、善良的探求、不要放弃对任何一句诺言的信守,美就在其中。
附: A LIBERAL DECALOGUE
By Bertrand
Russell
Perhaps the
essence of the Liberal outlook could be summed up in a new
decalogue, not intended to replace the old one but only to
supplement it. The Ten Commandments that, as a teacher, I should
wish to promulgate, might be set forth as
follows:
1. Do not feel
absolutely certain of
anything.
2. Do not think
it worth while to proceed by concealing evidence, for the evidence
is sure to come to
light.
3. Never try to
discourage thinking for you are sure to
succeed.
4. When you
meet with opposition, even if it should be from your husband or
your children, endeavor to overcome it by argument and not by
authority, for a victory dependent upon authority is unreal and
illusory.
5. Have no
respect for the authority of others, for there are always contrary
authorities to be
found.
6. Do not use
power to suppress opinions you think pernicious, for if you do the
opinions will suppress
you.
7. Do not fear
to be eccentric in opinion, for every opinion now accepted was once
eccentric.
8. Find more
pleasure in intelligent dissent than in passive agreement, for, if
you value intelligence as you should, the former implies a deeper
agreement than the
latter.
9. Be
scrupulously truthful, even if the truth is inconvenient, for it is
more inconvenient when you try to conceal
it.
10. Do not feel
envious of the happiness of those who live in a fool’s paradise,
for only a fool will think that it is
happiness.“
