For the last thirteen years of her life she was a widow in a land where she was not liked, ruled by a son who hated her.
land有两个后置定语:where she was not liked和ruled by a son who hated her。
We assume it’s a feeling that comes as a result of good things that just happen to us, things over which we have little or no control.

Having chosen family television programs and women’s magazines, the toothpaste marketer, for instance, must select the exact television programs and stations as well as the specific women’s magazines to be used.
在这个有30多个词的简单句中,-ing分词短语用作状语,不定式to be used修饰的不仅是women’s magazine,而且还修饰television programs and stations。
In the 1970s he was a surgeon at Yale, had a wonderful wife and five beautiful children, but he was terribly unhappy.

在Longman Dictionary of Common Errors (1987) favorite 词条下我们看到:
×My most favorite drink is lemonade.
√My favorite drink is lemonade.
An adjective which contains the sense most as part of its meaning cannot be used with most. Favorite means “most preferred”.
