夏基去看心理医生。

“医生，”他说，“我有麻烦了。每次我上床睡觉，都觉得床底下有人。我钻到床底下，又觉得床上面有人。床上、床下、床上、床下，哪都不能入睡。你得帮帮我。我都快疯了！”

“你只要把自己交给我两年，”心理医生说，“每周来找我三次，我就能治好你的恐惧症。”

“你收费多少？”

“每次一百美元。”

“我考虑考虑。”夏基说。

六个月后，医生在街上遇到了夏基。

“你为什么没有再来找我了？”心理医生问他。

“看一次病要一百美元？一个酒保只花了十美元就治好了我。”

“是这样吗！怎么治的？”

“他让我把床腿锯切掉！”

注：英语“Sleep on it”这个短语并非是“睡在某东西上面”的意思。它的意思是将对某事的决定推迟到睡过一觉的第二天。这个短语最早的使用是在1591年，出现在亨利八世（Henry VIII）的国家档案中。在现代英语的社交媒体中，这个短语也表示“不要忽视有价值的东西”。

Shakey went to a psychiatrist。

“Doc，”he said，“I've got trouble。Every time I get into bed，I think there's somebody under it。I get under the bed，I think there's somebody on top of it。Top，under，top，under。You gotta help me，I'm going crazy！”

“Just put yourself in my hands for two years。”said the shrink，“Come to me three times a week，and I'll cure your fears。”

“How much do you charge？”

“A hundred dollars per visit。”

“I'll sleep on it。”said Shakey。

Six months later the doctor met Shakey on the street。

“Why didn't you ever come to see me again？”asked the psychiatrist。

“For a hundred buck's a visit？A bartender cured me for ten dollars。”

“Is that so！How？”

“He told me to cut the legs off the bed！”
