证人作证

一名车祸现场的证人正在作证。律师和证人之间发生了以下对话：

律师：“你真的看到了车祸吗？”

证人：“是的，先生。”

律师：“车祸发生时，你离现场有多远？”

证人：“三十一英尺六又四分之一英寸。”

律师（想给证人挖个坑）：“那么，先生。你能告诉陪审团，你是如何知道你说的这个距离是正确的？”

证人：“因为车祸发生时，我拿出卷尺测量了一下。我就知道，有些愚蠢的律师会问我这个问题。”

原文： Testifying Witness

A witness to an automobile accident was testifying。The following exchange took place between the lawyer and the witness。

The lawyer：“Did you actually see the accident？”

The witness：“Yes，sir。”

The lawyer：“How far away were you when the accident happened？”

The witness：“Thirty-one feet，six and one quarter inches。”

The lawyer（thinking he'd trap the witness）：“Well，sir，will you tell the jury how you knew it was exactly that distance？”

The witness：“Because when the accident happened I took out a tape and measured it。I knew some stupid lawyer would ask me that question。”
