美国联邦航空管理局（FAA）似乎有一种测试飞机挡风玻璃强度的独特设备。

这种设备是一个发射器。它能以近似飞机飞行的速度向飞机挡风玻璃发射一只死鸡仔。它的理论是，如果挡风玻璃没有因鸡仔肉身的撞击而破裂，飞机也就不会在飞行中，因与鸟类发生真实碰撞而造成空难。

英国人对此好像很感兴趣。他们想用这个设备，测试他们正在研发的一种全新高速机车上的挡风玻璃。

他们向美国联邦航空局借用了这个发射器。装上一只鸡仔，扣动了扳机。

这只发射出去的鸡仔击碎了挡风玻璃，穿过了机车司机的椅子，破坏了一块仪表板，最后嵌入了驾驶室的后墙壁上。

It seems the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has a unique device for testing the strength of windshields on airplanes。

The device is a gun that launches a dead chicken at a plane's windshield at approximately the speed the plane flies。The theory is that if the windshield doesn't crack from the carcass impact，it'll survive a real collision with a bird during flight。

It seems the British were very interested in this and wanted to test a windshield on a brand new，speedy locomotive they're developing。

They borrowed the FAA's chicken launcher，loaded the chicken and fired。

The ballistic chicken shattered the windshield，went through the engineer's chair，broke an instrument panel and embedded itself in the back wall of the engine cab。

The British were stunned and asked the FAA to recheck the test to see if everything was done correctly。

The FAA reviewed the test thoroughly and had one recommendation：“Use a thawed chicken。”
