As the name of the show Queer as folk indicates, homosexuals are just like ordinary people. There are 6 main characters and in 5 seasons, the show tells the stories of their lifestyle, friendships and relationships or non-relationships.

I was hooked with
QAF straight from the first episode of the season
one, when the four friends ending a night at a popular gay club,
where Brian picks up and has sex with Justin. The latter falls in
love with him and eventually their affair becomes more than a
one-night-stand. So the story starts, and for me, QAF is always
about Brian and Justin.

Brian Kinney, the
big name of the show, has the most perfect profile I have ever seen
on or off screen, like an ancient Greek sculpture. On top of
everything physical, he has a very successful career as an
advertising executive. He lives at the moment and has sex purely
for the pleasure of it. Brian has commitment issues and he is the
Man Who Would Never, until he meets Justin. Brian finds himself
falling in love with Justin and the only one he continues to have
sex with after the first night.
The scene touches me most in the first season is that Brian shows up at Justin's prom and dances with him, kissing him in front of everybody, with the song “save the last dance for me” in the background. Justin described it as the best night of his life. It is such a sweet and beautiful dance that I still recall it clearly after few years. However the dancing turns out to be an ill –fated one for Justin as he is bashed by one of his classmates shortly after the prom. http://img18.tianya.cn/photo/2011/9/12/41584329_55667190.jpgas
As Brian constantly struggles with his first experience with the intensity and frustration of real love, the relationship between him and Justin proves to be a rocky road. Despite his young age, Justin is wise enough to accept and stay attracted to everything about Brian but one thing – Brian’s choice to withhold the security of real love. Unlike Justin, Brian twists inside with unfamiliar urges, and not so sure about Justin despite Justin’s repeat attempts to reassure him.

After 5 seasons, their teacher/student, father/son
relationship has been replaced by something more resilient and
intimate. Finally Brian loves Justin and respects him as an equal.
Justin is secure in Brian’s love and solid commitment. They are
going to have a wedding and then pull it off as a mutual decision
as Justin decides to pursue his artist career in New York.
But that is not the end of their relationship as
Justin knows that when Brian said “I will do anything to prove to
the one I love just how much I love him.’ In essence, they just got
married with a non-exchange of rings – Justin embraces Brian’s
philosophy while Brian keeps the rings in symbolic acceptance of
values Justin believes in.
Some QAF fans do have doubts about the ending with
Justin leaving Brian behind and heading for New York. But I think
they are made for each other and their fates are locked the moment
Brian lays eyes on Justin. Both of them are such dynamic, forceful
characters, their bond runs with more intensity, higher peaks and
deeper valleys. That’s what attracts and binds them to each other.
Knowing that, whatever parts them, they’ll get back together, in
shadow or in light, continue to amaze, challenge and love each
other in ways wholly and uniquely their own.
So the last episode of QAF completes the journey
starting from the very first one.
