谓语的核心部分是谓语动词 (predicate verb/ predicator) 是谓语的核心部分, 通常由动词词组构成。

简单动词词组

[1] When we saw this, we all laughed.

当时我们看到这个就都笑了。
[2] He never smokes cigarettes.

他从不抽烟。

复杂动词词组
[1] I will be moving to the new house next month.

我入住新房会在下月。
[2] He might have been working in the lab.

他可能一直都工作在实验室。

限定动词词组
[1] She promised not to do that again.

她答应下不为例。
[2] He enjoys listening to pop music.

他喜欢听流行音乐。

非限定动词词组

[1] He has never been known to behave like that before.

他从未有过这种行为记录。
[2] Being taken good care of, she recovered very quickly.

受到很好的照顾，所以她康复得很快。

还有谓语没有谓语动词的现象：无动词分句！

[1] Hand in hand, they left the house.

手牵着手，她们离开了房子。
