1月14日，美国驻保加利亚大使马西·里斯（Marcie Ries）和保加利亚文化部长皮塔·斯托亚诺维奇（Petar Stoyanovich）就保护保加利亚文化遗产签署两国政府协议。
根据该协议，两国将展开合作，减少保加利亚文物受到掠夺和贩运的现象，并规定有关文物必须归还保加利亚。保加利亚的文化遗产包括上图中考古学家亚历山大·明切夫（Alexander Minchev）展示的有2,500年历史的色雷斯人（Thracian）黄金面具等文物。国务院（State Department）在1月15日的新闻简报中说，该协议建立在美国为保护文化并尊重他国传统做出的长期承诺之上。
该协议还规定了为文化交流、教育及科研目的而展开的文化珍品交流。
美国政府已在《联邦纪事》（Federal Register）上公布了一份受该协议保护的文物列表，包括从公元前7500年到大约公元1750年的文物。这些文物只有在具备相关文件的情况下才能进入美国。

U.S. Will Work to Protect Bulgaria’s Cultural Heritage

U.S. Ambassador to Bulgaria Marcie Ries and Bulgarian Minister of Culture Petar Stoyanovich signed an agreement between the U.S. and Bulgarian governments on January 14 that will protect Bulgaria’s cultural heritage.
The agreement allows the countries to collaborate to reduce the looting and trafficking of Bulgarian antiquities and provides for their return to Bulgaria. The country’s heritage includes items such as the 2,500-year-old golden Thracian mask being shown by archaeologist Alexander Minchev above. The agreement builds on the United States’ long-term commitment to cultural preservation and respect for the traditions of other countries, the State Department said in a January 15 press release.
The agreement also provides for the exchange of cultural property for cultural, educational and scientific purposes.
The U.S. government has published in the Federal Register a list of types of items protected by the agreement, which range in date from 7500 B.C.E. to approximately 1750 C.E. Such material may enter the United States only with appropriate documentation.
