Aid Agency Helps Partners Build the Future

MCC reports that in 2013, 62 percent of the money it invested went into infrastructure improvement projects. Thanks to these investments, the United States has emerged as a key donor in global infrastructure construction.

Reliable roads, airports, seaports, irrigation canals, water and sanitation networks, electrical systems, schools and health centers are the foundation of community development and economic growth. Countries supported by the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) have chosen to direct the majority of their MCC funding to closing infrastructure gaps so communities and citizens can access local opportunities and compete in the global economy.

Infrastructure allows businesses and markets to develop, and regional and international trade to flourish. It provides dependable food linkages from farm to market to table. It paves reliable routes to schools, hospitals, land administration offices and voting booths. And it makes sure that the lights come on and safe water and sanitation are available. MCC partner countries understand that infrastructure investments also advance social empowerment and inclusion, the agency says.
