Capital: Little Rock
Population: Nearly 3 million people call Arkansas home.
Geography: This landlocked state shares a border with Missouri to the north, Tennessee to the northeast, Mississippi to the east, Louisiana to the south and Oklahoma to the west. Its terrain includes rugged hills, deep valleys, hot springs and lowlands.
Higher Education: Founded in 1871, the University of Arkansas is a public research university. It is located in Fayetteville and is the flagship institution of Arkansas’ state system. The school offers 78 bachelor’s programs, 86 master’s programs and more than 50 doctoral programs; and is well-known for its architecture, agriculture and business programs. Hendrix College is a private liberal arts college in Conway, Arkansas. Founded in 1876, the highly ranked college offers 30 undergraduate majors.
Major Industries: Arkansas’ agriculture industry centers on poultry, rice, soybeans, cattle and cotton.
