The world’s largest aquarium is working to conserve the world’s largest fish.
The Georgia Aquarium — the world’s largest aquarium — holds 10 million gallons of water.
It might sound like a lot, but according to a recent geological survey, there are 320 trillion million (that’s 320,000,000,000,000,000,000) gallons of water on Earth.
The aquarium’s commitment to conservation, though, means more than a splash in the bucket.
Since 2003, the Georgia Aquarium has worked with local universities and the Mexican government to study and conserve whale sharks like the one pictured above. It also focuses on saving sea otters and sea turtles through its 4R Program, for rescue, rehabilitation, research and responsibility.
Spokeswoman Mackenzie Anderson says conservation efforts combined with the aquarium’s educational initiatives “inspire others to care about these animals.”
