Every Christmas, Santa and his reindeer are tracked by the North American Aerospace Defense Command, better known as NORAD. For the 56th year in a row, children can follow Santa from the moment he leaves the North Pole.

When Santa climbs into his sleigh on Christmas Eve, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) will be tracking his movements until the very last present is delivered. This is the 56th year NORAD, headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado, has followed “Big Red” around the globe.

Every year there are more and more tools to help watch for Santa. Children can check the “NORAD Tracks Santa” website, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Google Earth and YouTube. For the first time, there are Santa-tracking applications for smartphones.

The NORAD website is available in English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese and Chinese.

Does Santa go to every country? Yes, says NORAD. Santa visits the homes of all children who believe in him, no matter where they live in the world.

Above, a satellite map of the world shows NORAD tracking Santa Claus over Australia on December 24, 2010. Visit the NORAD Santa-tracking website and see videos from students around the world.
