For the last several days the Sun has been at a right angle with the planet Uranus, what astrologers call a “square” or 90 degree angle in the Zodiac. Now that this square is fading away, what kind of experiences have you had recently?

In the positive sense Uranus can be about “liberation,” and in the negative sense about “chaos.” Whenever we are truly in the midst of great change in our lives there is going to be chaos, especially when that change involves behavior that is new to us or a situation that is not typical of our life experience. Chaos generates uncertainty, and the nature of a square is to feel more pressure! So I’m sure that many of you have felt this increased pressure to free yourself from situations that have outlived their usefulness. Perhaps you have grown or changed in ways that have made it more difficult to relate to old friends or even to your partner?

Whenever a trend involving the planet Uranus is in effect astrologers are likely to say it's “a chance to reinvent your life.” Such “reinvention” is not so easy, and whenever we take off in a new and unexpected direction it can worry our family and loved ones. Yet the feeling can be one of exhilaration – amidst realization that the anxiety was in your own resistance to change. Just this week one of my Aries clients decided to take his companies early retirement package, “I just couldn’t put off starting my new life,” he said excitedly. A Cancer client of mine spoke of how shocked she was by her own behavior this week, after she told her husband she did “not want to have another vacation with her adult kids and grandkids next summer!” A typical Cancer Mom, and grandmother, she said she just needed to do something different for a change. She even told her husband that if he didn’t want to go somewhere new with her that she would find an exciting place to go by herself!” Many Libras I know are in the midst of tremendous relationship chaos! Some Libras seem to be acting more like Aries these days, and in some instances departing from their normal kind and considerate nature. A Capricorn client of mine also told me this week that she’s leaving an established career to participate in a start-up company. Such behavior underscores the type of urges that characterize Uranian trends.

However, it's important to recognize the difference between reinventing your life and recklessness! If you are only rebelling against the status quo, without a better idea of what you want to do with your life, you are being reckless. Rebellion without awareness can result in impulsively jumping from one bad situation into another bad situation! Real liberation means “changing the pattern of your behavior.” Once the pattern is modified and improved, then your life can change for the better – otherwise you’ll just create or attract more chaos.

How do you change the pattern? The formula is Awareness Acceptance = Change. The more awareness you have about the truth of your evolving nature, the sooner you can begin to accept yourself and accept the changes that are underway. Once you really accept things, guess what? Things change! I’ve seen this over and over again during the last forty years. If you are experiencing this Uranian trend it is as if your astrological DNA was being modified, creating new building blocks for a more fulfilling and dynamic life.
