Being a grandfather and an astrologer gives me a unique perspective. Both seven year old granddaughters are full of fun. Liz, is a Pisces, and is characteristically caring and compassionate, but with Libra Rising she is socially very assertive. She speaks to other kids readily, asking them questions. “Have you tried the strawberry yogurt?"she will say to another little girl. “It’s so delicious!” Then say, “I like your dress.” Soon she is engaging the other girl in conversation like they were old friends. Being an Aquarius, Ella is more observant and more detached. However she’s a good artist. Like her grandfather she was born with a Sun Neptune conjunction and the North Node in Pisces and South Node in Virgo, and like I did at her age she draws pictures all the time. The other night at dinner she stunned me with a sketch of a cheeseburger and french fries!

  Who draws like this at seven? I would be twelve-years-old before I could sketch like this! From the time I was five until age thirteen I wanted to grow-up to be an artist. However, in 8th grade my art teacher discouraged me, telling me I would never be an artist “perhaps a cartoonist at best” she said. At fourteen, I would transfer my creative urges to writing and experience new fulfillment and success. Ella can transfer her vision of the cheeseburger and fries right through her fingertips with a pencil. I watched her with fascination at dinner. I thought about what we have in common astrologically, and what is different. I thought about what we have in common genetically. These are parallel themes, somehow part of the same reality. Yet as a grandfather I see Ella as an “improvement on a theme.” And Liz seems to express all the Libra and Pisces attributes its taken me a life to learn.
