The Dragon Boat Festival is one of the top 4 most important
traditional festivals in China, and 3 others are Spring Festival,
Sweeping Tomb Festival and Mid Autumn Festival respectively. The
Dragon Boat Festival was designated the UNESCO world intangible
cultural heritage in 2009. However, the festival in Suzhou is very
different from other areas of China.

As we know, the Dragon Boat Festival in the most areas of China was designed to commemorate the world-famous poet, Mr. Quyuan, in the Epoch of the Warring States. In Suzhou, local people celebrate the festival to miss Mr. Wu Zixu, who was the designer and founder of Suzhou ancient city.

Mr. Wu helped a lot Wu State to defeat Yue State over 2500 years ago, but the king didn't trust him any more because Mr. Wu always insisted on killing all officers from Yue State in case Yue State revenged.

Mr. Wu asked the king to hang his head on the top of Xu ancient city after his death because he wanted to see how Yue State defeated Wu State. Eventually, it was as expected that Wu State was defeated by Yue State.

Mr. Wu was killed and his bodies were cut into pieces, which were thrown into the city moat to feed fish. Henceforth, local people started to make the rice dumplings and threw them to the river and hoped the fish ate the dumplings rather than Mr. Wu's flesh.

In order to spread the typical festival of Suzhou, we held one special cultural activity targeted on the expat marketing of China on the boat

The phase of the Warring States played an important role in
the development of ancient Suzhou. We shared the history of this
typical period with all expats in the afternoon. All expats enjoyed
these legend stories, had some fun to make dumplings by themselves
and tasted the meaningful rice dumplings on the boat.
