I arrived at Probolinggo at 2:00 am after 8 hours because the
train was delayed. Local people recommended me to go to bus
station, where many buses went to my destination, Mount
Bromo.
But local driver didn't want to leave until all seats were
occupied. Two hours later, five more tourists came and then we
started to head for Bromo.
The bus rambled in the stunning landscapes of mountains and
suddenly, we saw a great group of soldiers were drilling
alongside.
The typical way to
visit Mount Bromo is
from the nearby
mountain village of Cemoro Lawang. I walked
around the village randomly after I chose one
home-inn to check in. I happened to meet Mr. DouglasKim from South
Korea, who liked hiking very much, so we decided to adventure by
ourselves.
We walked to the Mount Bromo instinctively even though we
didn't know where the paths were.

Mount Bromo is an active volcano and part of the Tengger massif, in East Java, Indonesia. The massif area is one of the most visited tourist attractions. The Volcano belongs to the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. The name of Bromo derived from Javanese pronunciation of Brahma, the Hindu creator god.
Mount Bromo
sits in the middle of a plain called the "Sea of Sand", a
protected nature reserve since 1919. Tourists can ride the horses
or take the motors to Bromo if they want to save
time.

We were shocked at the alive volcano when we reached the summit. We heard big noise constantly from the volcano underneath and smelt a strong stink of sulfur.

Depending on the degree of volcanic activity, the Indonesian Centre for Volcanology and Disaster Hazard Mitigation sometimes issues warnings against visiting

The driver waked us up at 3:30 am in the following morning and drove us to Mount Penanjakan.
The views were different when sun was rising.

We were luck to see the brilliant sunrise for about half an hour.

My roommate was from Japan, who was an undergraduate
student.

Many jeeps started to leave after the sunrise.

I had a great fun with four native Indonesians, who taught me how to make the meaningful gestures.

One girl was talented at taking the jumping photos. We added each other into friends on Facebook and promised to keep in touch in the future.

It was reported the Bromo surface looked like the moon at most.

Wish everyone to have a happy & prosperous 2019 when I
prayed to a local God at the summit of the volcano.
