享用过一顿丰盛的培根加鸡蛋早餐之后，开启我今天日程的是和中国国新办副主任蔡名照一起在中英互联网论坛上的主题演讲。中国的网民达 三亿三千八百万人，比美国人口总数还多，这一数字不得不令人吃惊！

蔡主任跟我说，中国的博客作者已达一亿八千人。那就让我成为那第一亿八千零一个吧！同时，我还有幸与中国的互联网领军人物阿里巴巴总裁马云会面。英国驻华大使欧威廉爵士 (Sir William Ehrman)主持了与 信息通讯技术业界的 企业家圆桌会议。毫无疑问，中国互联网的社会和经济意义均十分重大。另外，我还与 中国中央电视台台长焦利会面，并接受了《21 世纪经济报道》和《经济观察报》的采访。

晚餐是在港澳中心享用的，北京烤鸭和瓦罐鸡汤的味道真是香美可口。

After a breakfast of bacon and eggs, my day began with a keynote address to the UK-China Internet Forum with SCIO Vice Minister Cai Mingzhao. China's Internet penetration rate is 338 million. Staggeringly this is greater than the total population of the United States!

There are, Minister Cai tells me, 180 million bloggers. Now make that 180 million and one! I met with Jack Ma, China's "internet godfather" and head of Alibaba. The UK Ambassador Sir William Ehrman hosted a roundtable with ICT entrepreneurs. It's clear the social and economic implications of the internet here in China, are huge. I also met with CCTV's president Jiao Li and gave a couple of interviews to 21st century Business Herald and Economic Observer.

Had a lovely dinner at the Swisshotel; Peking Duck and chicken broth in a teapot.
