We are blind having these eyes. These eyes are totally dependent on light. The dependent things cannot give independence. If you are walking in the street at night and if you lose your precious ring and unfortunately the electricity goes out and you have no light, what will you do? You are stuck. How can you search? At that time, you feel yourself physically blind. All your actions would be like a blind man’s. All people are searching for things in the same way. Also people do not know what they are searching for. If someone is searching for a car, after getting it he will not be satisfied, his desire will be bigger. We need a person who can guide us on how to search and what to search for.

Hindus attach paramount importance to spiritual gurus. Gurus are often equated with God and always regarded as a link between the individual and the Immortal. Just as the moon shines by reflecting the light of the sun, and glorifies it, all disciples can dazzle like the moon by gaining from their Gurus.

What is Guru Purnima: The full moon day in the Hindu month of Ashad (July-August) is observed as the auspicious day of Guru Purnima, a day sacred to the memory of the great sage Vyasa. All Hindus are indebted to this ancient saint who edited the four Vedas, wrote the 18 Puranas, the Mahabharata and the Srimad Bhagavata. Vyasa even taught Dattatreya, who is regarded as the Guru of Gurus.

Significance of Guru Purnima:
On this day, all spiritual aspirants and devotees worship Vyasa in honor of his divine personage and all disciples perform a 'puja' of their respective spiritual preceptor or 'Gurudevs'.

This day is of deep significance to the farmers, for it heralds the setting in of the much-needed rains, as the advent of cool showers usher in fresh life in the fields. It is a good time to begin your spiritual lessons. Traditionally, spiritual seekers commence to intensify their spiritual 'sadhana' from this day.

The journey of life also will be a success if we have a Guru; He is the blessed one who has a qualified Guru. Once you please him surrendering yourself completely, he will take over your life, he will show you the real path and the real search. He removes all cravings thought through the power of spiritual light. The only thing a disciple needs to do is complete self-surrender.

Self-surrender does not mean only to bow down with your whole body. Surrender means obeying his order and discipline with all of your heart. Surrender means using His mind and leaving own mind.

One cannot search a guru. Do not go for searching. Just work with yourself. Just purify and prepare yourself. Be ready. Guru is coming to you. Be ready to welcome Him. He needs you, but you are not prepared. If you are not bathed and clean, does the priest allow you in the temple to worship? If you have not come with your admit card, does the examiner allow you to sit for the examination? Some people try to count the enlightened gurus who are present in this world. Do not count Gurus in your figures or numbers. One needs to count his own mind. Guru is shakti, a hidden power which lies in all beings. We need that Gurushakti to come out. For that we need an external power.

In each advice of Guru, there is power and love. Even in his punishment the love and grace are hidden. Disciple is he who practices discipline given by Guru. I have many experiences with my Guru, kindly he accepted me as his child and I am one of his children. He trained me how to walk on the way of spirituality. I hold his little finger and learnt how to walk. I ask blessings but he gives me practices. When I wanted to touch his feet he did not allow and replied, “touch your feet”. At that time I heard from my heart “son, I am with you, inside you and around you. Feel my presence all the time.” Touching our own feet means keep practicing. Have a full faith in practice. If you have no faith in yourself, how you will be successful in the journey. He never allowed us to see him as a great man but as a friend.

Gurudeva, you are great, you are the beauty of my life. My life without you is meaningless. You are the meaning of life. On this day I am offering all my heart to your feet. Kindly accept me and guide me, your small Disciple. Manu
