A Blood Donor

Farnaz had just donated a pint of blood. Now she drank her orange juice and swallowed the last bite of a chocolate donut. Farnaz had a small bandage on her arm, but she felt fine. It was time to leave, so she walked toward the front door of the blood center.
Farnaz felt really happy about being a blood donor. She knew that millions of people need blood transfusions each year. People need blood during surgeries. Others need it because of accidents. And others need parts of blood to treat diseases.
There are requirements for blood donors. Farnaz certainly met those requirements. She was in good health. She was over 17 years old and weighed over 110 pounds. And she passed the physical and health history evaluations.
Farnaz knew there was no risk of contracting an infection. Blood centers carefully screened donors. It was safe for her. And it was safe for the people who received her and other donors' blood.
"See you in eight weeks," said Farnaz to the receptionist.
A young man looked up from his magazine. "Do you do this every eight week?" he asked.
"Yes, I do," said Farnaz, proudly.
"Oh, " he said. "I don't like needles. I'm just waiting for a friend."
"Too bad," said Farnaz. "You can save lives and have a chocolate dount."
"A chocolate donut?" he asked. The man turned to the receptionist. "May I please donate, too?"
