About “DUET”
In May 2012, a contemporary dance
Awakening created by youth choreographer SHI JING
XIN who is a teacher from Beijing
Dance Academy, was performed on the 29th - Shanghai Spring
International Music Festival- Dance Unit, and obtained high praise
and recognition; this time, she and her XIN-ART-LAB will bring us
her dance representative work “Duet”, telling and recalling the changes of Shanghai
and Beijing with the body language. And this work is also about the
introspection of historic mark which can’t be copied behind those
two cities. The Special performance will put Chinese and
Western culture and the pondering of the art into together, sharing
the exploration and charm of Chinese contemporary dance with more
people. As usual, the performance will present you XIN-ART-LAB’s
mature and critically acclaimed works in recent years. It will show
you two works of different style respectively through the form of
contemporary dance and dance drama. The first one is Being alive
is good which is commissioned by Singapore Fringe Festival and
it was also performed during Beijing international Fringe festival
and Beijing dance Fortnight .It tells a story about love and hope
in Shanghai via the form of dance drama; the other one is
YuanMingYuan which was performed during Beijing Modern Dance
Festival and Guangdong Modern Dance Festival.
Work Comments
1, Using the terse body language, SHI JING XIN interprets her grandmother's life experience through her grandmother's life action such as dressing, eating, repairing lamp, sweeping the floor, and washing feet.——Singapore – Confederacy News Report.
2, Using different perspectives,
SHI JING XIN eradicates the dull feeling which is usually in
the other versions of Being alive is good, shows us about
Shanghai's historical changes and common life and interprets us the
life process from growth to aging. The author uses the means of
after modern dance drama, combined with actual situation to convey
the delicate emotional entanglements between grandparents and
grandchildren. The ineffable kinship relations may only dance can
express. It is still "alive", and is still the philosophical
questioning of the meaning of life, but shows the unique aesthetic
experience.
3, A young dancer is deserved praise for the reflecting
who we are from the grandmother's
generation.
4, Being alive is good has a very
distinctive experimental attribute, and has revealed a real life of
awareness and contemplation in solemn form. The warmth in the cold
brings unique artistic experience and
feelings.
5, Because of strong passion and
obsession to the dance, SHI JING XIN becomes very outstanding; the
content of her works becomes increasingly deep with the expansion
of her experience and she made the exploration to the form of the
dance!
