　　韦应物（737-790后），唐代诗人，曾在苏州做地方官，后人称他“韦苏州”。他的诗以简洁朴素的语言歌咏水景物，抒写田园生活的乐趣；也有一些反映民间疾苦的作品。

　　①滁州西涧——在今安徽省滁县城西。涧，夹在两山间的水沟。
　　②独怜——无比地喜爱，最喜欢。
　　③幽草——深草，茂密的野草。
　　④春潮——春天上涨的河水。
　　⑤野渡——野外的渡口。

　　这首绝句，包含两幅山水风景画面。
　　两山之间，一道流水；水边丛生着青草，山上覆盖着林木；浓密的枝叶深处，不时传出几声黄鹂儿的啼鸣——春日的西涧，真是一个幽静的所在啊！诗人深深地爱上了这里……
　　待到黄昏时分，天下起雨来了，诗人来到了一个荒僻的渡口。正是春潮上涨的时节，水势已经够大，现在加上雨水，就越发迅猛了。渡口上不见一个人，只有一条小船系在岸边，空荡荡地在水面飘浮。“野渡无人舟自横”，多么美妙的诗情画意啊！
　　全诗四句都是写景，只用开头“独怜”二字抒情。这个饱含激情的字眼点染全篇，表明诗中的画面，不管雨前景、雨中景，者是诗人特别欣赏的。

Wei Yingwu(737-790)was a well-known poet of the Tang Dynasty and served as a local official in Suzhou,Jiangsu Province.Most of his verses were designed to eulogize the beauty of mountains and rivers or to describe the interestins country life,while some of his works offered a true reflection of the people's sufferings.He was highly praised by great poet Bei Juyi for his excellent artistic achievements in poetry.

  In this short poem,Wei presented two vivid pictures of the scenery at the Western Stream located to the west of Chu County,Anhui Province.

  In the first two lines,we see a clear stream flowing through the mountains and the land covered with thick green grass,and hear occasionally the singing of orioles in the dense woods on the hills.The Western Stream under the su rays in Spring was such a quiet and secluded place that poet loved it immensely.

  In the last two lines,we see that the poet reached a deso late ferry in the dusk rain.In the season of Spring,the quick flow of the Stream was getting faster on the strength of the rain.At the ferry,the poet could see no soul but a moored small empty boat floating idly on the surface of the water.This wonderful view in the rain is certainly a picture different from what we have seen in the first two lines.
