What Is a Son?

A son is the shining light of his parents’ hopes and dreams. He is a young man who makes life’s moments so beautiful with the miracle of all he has been, and the treasure of everything he will become.

                                                        --Terry Bairnson

A son is a kite flying through the trees, a tadpole turning into a frog, a dandelion in the wind

A son is a mischievous smile, laughing eyes, a scape on the knees

A son is a wonder, an excitement, a burst of energy, an animation, a spirited breeze

A son is everything wonderful

A son is love                                              --Susan Polis Schutz

l         A Son Grows Up So Quickly

A son is a memory of that little boy you used to know. He was the little person in your life who brought a happiness that you never thought could exist. His smile could chase away your rain; his tears could chase away your sun. He changed your world. And his growing up seemed slow and never-ending to you, like you would have him forever.

Then one day you find yourself looking up at him—and the eyes that were once a boy’s have become a man’s. It scares you at first; you weren’t ready, because it happened so fast. You find yourself in a panic, wondering if you have done everything right—spent enough time, listened well, and said the right things.

What had once seemed so never-ending has become your past in the flutter of a heartbeat. But your fears and doubts quickly get cast aside when he looks back at you with that same loving smile he had as a boy. That smile didn’t grow up.

If you look hard and deep enough tinto his eyes, you’ll find that little boy is still there. He grabs you in a hug and whispers “I love you.” And then you know that it doesn’t matter whether he’s a little boy or a grown man…for he will always be your son.                                         --Debbie Burton-Peddle

Within the soul of every man lives the little boy he once was—a boy who looked at the world with eyes full of wonder, who always believed in “once upon a time,” and who planned to conquer the world someday.

                                              –Edmund O’Neill

No one can drum up mischief more quickly than a boy—yet still look so innocent behind a wide-eyed smile. No one else can thrill your heart with flowers from your own backyard, drawings done in crayon, or his sweet attempts at trying to help out.

No one else can fill your home with laughter, captivate your heart completely, and make you happier day by day and prouder as the years go by.

No one is dearer than a boy…except the special man that he grows up to be.          --Barbara J. Hall

A Son Changes Your World Forever

Having a son is the inspiration for so many joyful images blending together through the years: of growing so wonderfully, in body and mind; of learning the real meaning of love; of the closeness that truly defines a family.                                            –Lorrie Westfall

The priceless gifts in life are not the ones wrapped up and given on special occassions, but the gifts we give when we give of ourselves.                                   –Ben Daniels

You’ve given me the kind of gifts any parent would cherish…the warmth of your smile, the jokes we’ve shared, the times we’ve known, and the joy of watching you grow into the wonderful man you’ve become. These are all memories I’m so proud to call my own. You’re always with me in my heart; I cherish the closeness we share and feel. I can’t begin to put into words how much you mean to me, but I’m pouring it out from my heart. You’re the best son any parent could ever ask for, and I love you with all my heart.        –Linda E. knight

l         Where Did the Time Go?

When I look at you now, I see a man standing there, and I wonder how this could be. It was only a short time ago that I held you in my arms and rocked your tears away. Just last week, I wiped your runny nose and bragged about how you could ride a bike. Only yesterday, I attend your graduation. I noticed then that I had to stretch up to kiss you.

You are a man now, proud and wise, strong in body and spirit. I don’t know how you accomplished this so quickly; I only know that you are as important to me now as you were at all those times past. I still brag about your achievements with the same pride, and I’d help heal your hurts if you needed me to. I knowe you don’t need me the way you used to, and I share your joy for your independence. The years slip away, but my love for you remains as strong as when I first held you.                    –  Fran Knutson

Always Be True to Yourself, My Son

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.                                                                                --Mark Twain

As You Strive to Fulfill Your Destiny…

Be true to your dreams, my son, and keep them alive. Never let anyone change your mind about what you feel you can achieve. Always believe in yourself.

Be true to the light that is deep within you. Hold on to your faith, hope, and joy for life. Keep good thoughts in your mind and good feelings in your heart. Keep love in your life, and you will find the love and light in everyone.

Be giving, forgiving, patient, and kind. Have faith in yourself. Be your own best friend, and listen to the voice that tells you to be your best self.

Be true to yourself in the paths that you choose. Follow your talents and passions; don’t take the roads others say you must follow because they are the most popular. Take the paths where your God-given talents will thrive—the ones that will keep your spirits alive with enthusiasm and everlasting joy.

Most of all, never forget that there is no brighter light than the one within you. Keep on being true to yourself. Keep shining your light on us so that we will always have a reason to smile. Follow your ininer light to your own personal greatness, and remember that we admire you and love you just as you are.

                                                    –Jacqueline Schiff

All successful achievement has come from a single thought: I think I can. In life we help create our own triumphs and defeats depending on how and what we think.                 --Milton Willis and Michael Willis
