定语从句之三：关系代词：whose

    在复合句中，修饰名词或代词的从句叫定语从句，被修饰的名词或代词叫先行词，引导定语从句的连词叫关系代词（who, whom, whose, that, which, as）或关系副词（when, where, why, how），它们在从句中必须作成分，现归纳总结如下：

关系代词 whose 的用法：

要点：既能引导限制性定语从句，又能引导非限制性定语从句，修饰先行词是表示人或物的名词，

      连词在从句中作主语或宾语，作宾语时，连词可以省略，具体如下：

1．引导限制性或非限制性定语从句，修饰先行词是表示人的名词，连词在从句中作定语，后面要接名词

   (名词是从句中的主语或宾语)，其含义是“(先行词)的”如：

1).They rushed over to help the man whose car had broken down. (the man's car)

   那人车坏了，他们跑过去帮忙。

2).The old man whose son is in the army is my uncle. (the old man's son)

   其儿子在部队的那位老人是我叔叔。

3).She lives in a house whose windows face a beautiful lake. (windows of a house)

   她住在一个窗户对着美丽湖泊的房子里。

4).He was the man from whose room the thief had stolen the bag. (from the man's room)

   他就是被小偷从其房间偷包的那个人。

5).The team is headed by a 44-year-old Mongolian, whose wife was a tibetan. (Mongolian wife)

   队长是个44岁的蒙古人，他的妻子是个西藏人。

2．引导限制性或非限制性定语从句，修饰先行词是表示物的名词，连词在从句中作定语，可换成

   of which，如：

1).He borrowed a book whose auther was a peasant.

   =He borrowed a book the auther of which was a peasant.

   =He borrowed a book of which the auther was a peasant.

    我借了一本书，书的作者是个农民。

2).It happened on a lonely island whose name escapes my memory.

   =It happened on a lonely island the name of which escapes my memory.

   =It happened on a lonely island of which the name escapes my memory.

     那件事发生在一个我记不得名字的孤岛上。

3).The building whose pointed roof you can see is a church.

   =The building the pointed roof of which you can see is a church.

   =The building of which the pointed roof you can see is a church.

    你能看见尖顶的那个建筑物是一座教堂。

4).There is a mysterious lake at the foot of the hill, whose depth has never been measured.

   =There is a mysterious lake at the foot of the hill, the depth of which has never been

    measured.

   =There is a mysterious lake at the foot of the hill, of which the depth has never been

    measured.

    山脚下有个神秘的湖，其深度从未测量过。

5).This is the book whose cover is blue.

   =This is the book the cover of which is blue.

   =This is the book of which the cover is blue.

    这就是那本封面是蓝色的书。
