（给友人的一封信 -- 卷首语）

Z君，您好！

你发我的三批照片，均收到，谢谢！

昨日来了两批客人。 -- 不亦忙乎！不亦乐乎！

利用一个小时，筛选出10幅风景照片，心情愉悦，犹如重游。斟酌之乐，题词之趣，胜游也。

如我在天目山跟你谈起的 – 游人去而禽鸟乐也。然而禽鸟知山林乐，而不知人之乐；人知从太守游而乐，而不知太守之乐而乐也。醉能同其乐，醒能述以文者，太守也。

当年在复旦校园，你我如何能料到今日之国土竟涌动如此旅游热潮？老人，占了旅游的半壁江山！

国迎盛世，你我迎颐养天年之岁月。 -- 万幸！

当年在复旦，我是外文系的“串连第一”，现在老了，家人竟然称呼我“徐霞客”。-- 你看，江山易改，本性难移。一点不假！

复旦前校长华中一君的骤逝，又给了我们几多静思。-- 江山留胜迹，我辈复登临。江山万岁，而我等黎民（当然也包括当年的“万岁爷”们）则难圆“百岁”之梦（却怀千岁之忧）也。

此次天目之行，天公作美，我们的运动量极大，身心俱洗。归来后，血压和血糖指标更趋正常。

昨日汪先生来电，7月 - 8月的俄罗斯和新疆之旅，已经报名。长兴、杭州之休闲之旅，也正在积极筹备。-- 谈先生享受的虎跑品茗，令我神往。多年来，“虎跑”怎么“跑”出了我的视线！

回家之后，手头文务沉沉。 -- 还得潜心构思，静心享受，精心制作。

同时，手头尚存五名博士生。哎，在外未敢忘“博生”！

10幅照片，张张耐看，幅幅有诗。-- 我反复观赏，竟观赏出实地没有观赏到的许多细节。

我在美国时，走访了大峡谷。美国人闻我去大峡谷，皆叹曰：So great! So fantastic! 实地观赏，大失所望。我想，让美国友人到天目山一游，在海拔1000米以上的山顶，见如此密集的参天大树，见源自元代的碑林，他们将发出如何的慨叹！

美哉，天目！

 6. 见渔人，乃大惊；问所从来。具答之。便要还家，设酒杀鸡作食。村中闻有此人，咸来问讯。

1/ The people were amazed to see the fisherman, and they asked him from where he had come. He told them in detail, then the people invited him to their home, set out wine, butchered a chicken, and prepared a meal. Other villagers heard about the fisherman, and they all came to ask him questions.

2/ Seeing the fisherman, they were greatly amazed and asked him where he had come from. He answered all their questions, and then they invited him to their homes, where they put wine before him, killed chickens and prepared food in his honor. When the other people in the village heard about the visitor, they too all came to ask questions.

汉语并不注重彰显句子内部的逻辑关系，句与句之间没有，或很少表示逻辑关系的连接词，上句即是一例。因此，汉语又称“意合语言”，以汉语为母语者的语言悟性就特别敏锐。比如，“便要还家，设酒杀鸡作食”，其间，无须任何连接词，读者明白，所谓“设酒杀鸡作食”，肯定在“家”中，而英语在表达如此意思时，就得添加一个where，以示地点。如译2 -- and then they invited him to their homes, where they put wine before him, killed chickens and prepared food in his honor. 一个where，用得何其精彩，其英语味便浓郁起来。

又如，“村中闻有此人，咸来问讯”英语在表达如此意思时，就得添加一个when，以示时间，如译2 -- When the other people in the village heard about the visitor, they too all came to ask questions.

由此可见，汉译英中的表层转换，也不可忘记英汉两种语言的“表层差异”。

相比之下，译1就略嫌逊色。须指出的是，译1的in his honor，庄重有余，难合语境，不如略作调整。

改译：

The fisherman was then spotted by a villager, who was greatly amazed and asked where he had come from. The fisherman replied in detail. Then the villager invited him to his home, where he poured wine and prepared chickens to treat him. When the rest of the village heard about the visitor, they flocked over with all kinds of questions.
