第一话：杀猪的

Chapter 1：The butcher

 

两千五百多年前，吴国，位于中国第一大河长江之东，今日的江苏省。长江，也是全亚洲最长的河流，全长六千多公里，是中华文化重要的发源地之一。在吴国首都一个市集上，人潮熙熙攘攘，好不热闹，果真是南中国一大重镇。

（About two thousand and five hundred years ago, the kingdom of Wu, located near the east of China’s longest river – Changjiang, in today's Jiangsu province. Changjiang is also the longest river in the whole of Asia. It’s more than six thousand miles long. It is one of the most important cradles of Chinese civilization. On a street, in the capital city of Wu, it was crowded with a sea of people; hilarious, indeed. It was no doubt one of the most prosperous cities in southern China.）

 

人潮中，有个身材魁梧，皮肤黝黑，虎背熊腰的男子，正在剁肉。他，是个杀猪的，其名曰——专诸。专诸，吴国堂邑人士，堂邑位于今江苏省南京市六合区西北。

Amongst the crowd, there was a well-built and dark-skinned bloke；an incredible hulk. He was mincing his pork. His name was Zhuan Zhu, a butcher. Zhuan Zhu was from Tanyi，located in the northwest of Nanjing’s Liuhe district ，in today’s Jiangsu province.   

 

 

 

专诸：“各位大叔大婶们，好鲜美的猪肉啊！快来买啊…”

'Ladies and gentlemen, my pork is fresh. Come and buy some…' Zhuan Zhu screamed.

 

一瞬间，即有个大娘前来卖肉，说道：“是挺新鲜的哦。“

(In the blink of an eye, there came a lady who wanted to buy the pork. 'It’s quite fresh, yes,' she said.)

 

专诸：“那当然！帮专诸买一些，大婶。“

(Zhuan Zhu: 'That’s for sure. Buy some, my lady.'

 

大婶：好，好，好。既然是你专诸卖的，我就买。

The woman: 'Great. Great. Zhuan Zhu，since it’s your pork，I’ll buy some.'

 

专诸：“大娘，谢谢你。”

Zhuan Zhu: 'Thanks my lady.'

 

突然间，有四条汉子出现，其中一人向专诸抛出一粒苹果，苹果超越过人群，几乎飞到专诸眼前，专诸一出手，抓住了。

（All of a sudden, there popped up four guys. One of them threw an apple at Zhuan Zhu. Through the crowd，the apple was flying towards Zhuan Zhu. Before it hit him，he grabbed it.）

 

另一人大喊：“走开，走开！别挡着我们少爷的路。”

（Another guy yelled: 'Out of the way! Out of the way! Don’t get in our young master’s way!' ）

 

四条汉子一下子就冲到专诸的猪肉摊， 有一个对专诸喊道：“喂！你就是那个卖猪肉的？”

(In a jiff, the four guys dashed towards Zhuan Zhu’s pork stall. One of them yelled at Zhuan Zhu: 'Hei! You’re the butcher, eh?' )

 

专诸一言不发，依旧切其猪肉。

(Zhuan Zhu did not utter a word. He kept cutting his pork.)

 

有一个个子较为矮小的， 喊道：跟你说话呢！切，切，切！ 还切什么？(A short guy cried out: 'We’re talking to you, man! Why are you still going on with your pork cutting, huh?')

 

专诸依然切其猪肉，极其专注。

(Zhuan Zhu still kept cutting and slicing his pork. He was absolutely attentive.)

 

第三个汉子, 迅雷不及掩耳的，把专诸的一些猪肉给拔下。当他正想再出手时，专诸比他更快，一把手抓住他，说道：这位兄弟，你还想怎么样？

(And the third guy, fast as lightning, pulled down some of Zhuan Zhu’s pork.)

 

在矮个子还没来得及说话前，最后一个，衣着光鲜，看来像个“小开”似的。他不慌不忙，开口说：不得无礼。

(Before the short guy could say anything, the last guy standing there, dressed up to the nines，looked like some kind of a rich man’s son. He was calm, self-possessed; and he said: 'Behave yourself.')

 

专诸看他以礼相待，于是便说：“这位公子来此，有何贵干？”

(Zhuan Zhu noticed that he was being polite. So he said: 'Young master，what have you come here for?'

 

这位公子名曰聂铁，貌似文质彬彬，却是当地目无王法，游手好闲之辈。忽然，他拿出一块变了色的猪肉，仍在专诸摊子上，并对专诸说：“这块肉，是向你买的。看，黑成这样，根本就不是新鲜货。”

（This young master’ name was Nie Tie. He might look like a gentleman. But in fact, he was a local thug, lawless and up-to-no-good. Suddenly, he took out a piece of pork that had turned black. And he tossed it onto Zhuan Zhu’s stall. 'I bought this from you. Take a look, it’s turned all black. It’s not fresh at all.' he said it to Zhuan Zhu.）

 

专诸拿起那猪肉，嗅了一下，问：”请问公子是何时买的？”

Zhuan Zhu picked up that piece of pork and smelled it. And he asked: 'My young master, may I know when you bought this?'

 

聂铁回答说道：“今早。”

'This morning.' Nie Tie answered.

 

 专诸：“非也。我嗅得出，这肉绝非是今早买的，也并非是向我买的，公子请回。”

Zhuan Zhu: 'No. I could smell it. This pork was absolutely not bought this morning. And you didn’t buy it from me，either. Young master, you may go now.'

 

汉子二喊道：“说是今早买的就是今早买的，还不赶快还我们一块新鲜的？“

The second guy yelled : 'We say it was bought this morning. So it's true! Why don’t you swap us with a new piece, huh? Hurry up!'

 

 

专诸笑道：“既然不是向我买的，我又何须偿还?“

Zhuan Zhu smiled and said : 'Since you didn’t buy it from me, why should I swap you with anything?'

 

此时，聂铁露出冷冷的一笑， 说道：“弟兄们，还不动手？”

At the moment, Nie Tie gave a cold smile and he said: 'Brothers, why don’t you do something?'

 

语音一落，那三条汉子正欲倒翻专诸猪肉摊，此时，专诸已不得不出手了。

(No sooner had the words come out of his mouth than those three guys went up overthrowing Zhuan Zhu’s stall. Right now, Zhaun Zhu had to do something. )
