Mixed Greens and Nasturtium Salad
Drew this for DIPSC last
Friday! The theme was Mother Nature, though I think mine looks more
like a Daughter Nature, or maybe an Adolescent Nature, or even a
Bachelorette Nature. Anyhoo, this took me about an hour and a half
plus another hour noodling around and fixing some details. I'm
definitely happy with the speed and lighting I pulled this off
with, but not with the anatomy, hah! I wanted to go for unrealistic
anatomy but the more I painted and the more it started to look like
it was attempting to look realistic and look awkward. The neck was
purposely sketched out to be really long but ultimately didn't make
sense in the end... And the arms are badly placed because I had to
move/repaint them because they didn't properly connect to the torso
earlier. I have a lot of trouble sketching
structurally and tend to go too much for the gesture/flow/feeling.
I usually throw in flats instead of painting planes. Gotta do that
next time... Note to self, scribbly sketches and
dimensional paintings don't mix...

Figure Bandwagon
First of all, I have
finally stopped being lazy and started going to FEWS. I can't deny
that it's been super helpful, especially being able to draw without
pressure and with more freedom to experiment. I definitely need to
do more figure drawings... It's just that it's so boring to look
around and seeing everyone post the same FEWS and class assignments
on their blogs.
ANYWAY!
This week I tried hard
to use minimal lines:
These were 15-minute studies, I think:
Reclining foreshortened figure for homework. I think this one took me an hour and 45 minutes? It was my first really long figure drawing and much more fun than I expected it to be! (I tend to lose my focus after an hour)

Drawing from class, 40-minute I think?
Basically a skeleton and muscle structure drawn on frosted mylar
over a figure drawing from class. I wasn't very happy with my first
figure because it was fuzzy and not very detailed, but i did like
the skeleton and muscles. I'm overall happy with the back figure
though (minus the forshortened muscles and bones... ick). I noticed
that I tend to be much better at drawing people from the
back...
