Yi Sha is back from the 38th Poetry International Festival in Rotterdam, and his latest novel, Zhongguo wangshi 中国往事 is finally published. I’ll post a short review when I’m finished reading. I browsed through the various online editions while writing my master thesis, now that I have it as a paperback, I can finally give it another read, this time more focused.
You can buy the book on Chinese Amazon, if you’re interested, it’s 23.30 plus shipping.

Soaring towards the finishing line, I passed another milestone
in my career as a student of Chinese language and literature today.
It seems like no one gets through without having written something
at least remotely connected to 白居易之长恨歌 and China’s most
dangerous 女祸 in history (this is up to discussion, I count at
least a couple of contenders for this title among my
acquaintances). That’s what I did, and I reviewed five of the most
common theories about the aim and motivation of 长恨歌. Since many
of these theories base their argumentation on 陈鸿之长恨传, I
discuss a study by 周相录 which analyzes the different versions of
长恨传 and its impact on the theories about 长恨歌.
It’s boring stuff, but if you read German and want a quick
overview of the Chinese discussion about 长恨歌, you may want to
give it a read. I’ll upload it within the next few days.
