网友“雪泥鸿爪”在英国已经住了十多年了，觉得英国这个地方，越住越有意思。英国的天气，英国的人与事，有时侯很叫人弄不懂，也很有意思，所以开了一个博客《英国琐记——写一段段平凡生活的风景》（http://janetwilliams.wordpress.com/）。最新一篇博客“百年前的帝国运动”，谈到近百年前英国的“帝国运动”，感觉有点像后来民国时期中国的“新生活运动”的原创版，除了要求英国人做个守法好公民，更强调思想道德情操。文章转载如下：

英国老一辈的人，会记得这段顺口溜：“Remember, Remember Empire Day, the 24th of May.”第一个 ‘Empire Day’ (帝国纪念日）是在1902年5月24日（纪念维多利亚女王的生日）。1958 年，Empire Day 改称为Commonwealth Day （共和联邦日）。从1977 年开始，共和联邦日在3月的第二个星期一举行。我最近在一张大海报上，读到了约100年前，‘帝国纪念日’的帝国运动 (Empire Movement)，觉得有趣，把重点写出来分享。过去，英国人民的最高荣誉，就是为帝国服务。他们当年的服务宗旨、情操，对今日的社会，还是很有用的。

 
帝国运动的宣言是：

责任、义务、同情心、牺牲小我。(Responsibility, duty, sympathy, self-sacrifice)
 

 目标：

大英帝国的子民，肩负重任，庆祝帝国纪念日，乃体现了人民内心之觉醒。（1905年5月24日，Earl of Meath, 密斯伯爵）（注：此伯爵正是帝国纪念日的推动者。）
“It is intended that the Empire celebration shall be an outward sign of an inner awakening of the people who constitute the British Empire  to the serious duties which lie at their door.”

标语：

一个国王；一面国旗；一支舰队；一个帝国 (One King, One Flag, One Fleet, One Empire)

口号：

全因上帝、义务、帝国 (For God, duty, and Empire)

花朵：

雏菊、牛眼菊、矢车菊或法兰西菊 (Daisies, Ox-eyed daisies, Bachelor’s buttons or marguerites)
 

英国子民必须：
1) Love and fear God 爱神；敬畏神
2) Honour the King 尊敬国王
3) Obey the laws 遵守法律
4) Prepare to advance the highest interests of the Empire in peace and war. 和平和战争时期，都要推动帝国的最高利益
5) Cherish patriotism 怀有爱国情操
6) Regard the rights of other nations 敬重他国的权利
7) Learn citizenship 学习做个好公民
8）Follow duty 遵守义务
9) Consider duties before rights 先考虑义务，再考虑权利
10) Acquire knowledge 汲取知识
11) Think broadly 思想开阔
12) Practice discipline 实践纪律
13) Subdue self 抑制自我
14) Work for others 服务他人
15) Consider the poor and the suffering 顾念贫困受苦之人
