I invited an old driver Michael Jean to give me some instructions this time. Michael has a traditional Chinese way to teach his student, very severe and always shout with anger. I did 2’50, then 3 minutes, then slower and slower under his manner of coaching. And I have to change my habit of shifting gears!
I quickly pick up the gear shifting motion, and start over again. The rpm limit started from 5000, and then 5500 and 6000. All practicing must using road tires. I quickly reach to 2’08 with rpm limit 6000 and road tires.
When Michael Jean is away, Alan changed slickers for me and I asked Alan to raise the rpm limit to 6500. The grip enhanced a lot with slickers. I can put on more entry speed, and accelerate much earlier with slickers, but still, I have to release the gas some times to avoid to hit rpm limit.
2’03! It is surprising when I see the timing on the dash board, because I did not push at all, and there is a rpm limit of 6500! It is the tires create the miracle.
After the session, I come back to the pit and get out of the car. All of sudden, I feel very sour with my right leg. It is from long walks 2 weeks ago. It quickly turned to be extremely painful, as painful as somebody is cutting off my leg. I start to moan, hoping the pain will be released a bit.
The pain did not go away after I saw a couple of doctors. Other drivers are practicing in the track, but I have to lie on bed at home. Alan kept asking me if I could race. Well, I did not qualify the entry lap time of 2 minutes, and I am lame. I understand well Alan’s concern.
“Yes, I can drive.” I tell Alan while suffering from the pain with my braking leg.
