Some day in March, I got an email from Alan Bett, who is the owner of AB Motor Sport. Alan asked me in the email if I am interested in testing his Lotus in Zhuhai. And probably he would offer me a drive in Lotus Challenge if I can show my abilities as a driver.
I had a busy job at that time, so I almost worked my ass off to finish all the work and get to Zhuhai in time, because I know that driving a Lotus will be so much fun. I flied all the way from Beijing the north down to Zhuhai the south, and the testing is only for one day.
Testing did not go well as I thought. Gears are difficult to get in, throttle jumps up and down suddenly. Even more, it is a right hand steering car, which is difficult for a driver like me, who have been driving left hand steering car all the life.
Two minutes 19 seconds. This is considered the final fastest lap time that I did in the 4.3km Zhuhai track. I once drove another 1.3 liter Toyota at Zhuhai track and 2’19 is exactly what I did with that small car. For a Lotus, it is a very bad lap time.
But it seems Alan did not pay much attention to the lap time. I am astonished when he invited me to Zhuhai again to do the second test driving by the end of April. However, he also said that I could be qualified to get a drive in Lotus Challenge only if I can achieve a lap time of 2 minutes.
