Thanks for your mail. It's great that you still
harbour some strong interests in translating something
of the present day Chinese literature. But have
you heard the remarks or “smear ” as was
called by some people , made by the German sinologist Gu Bin(what's
his German name ?) that contemporary Chinese literature are almost
trash? You don’t mind translating some of them
if heard about it?
Most of these writers are really a sorry lot as they live off
their writings. They have to publish to live. But they are damnably
confined by the human condition they are reduced to and so they
can't write anything which is really worthy.
I don't blame them , I simply share their pathetic existence ; but
I really don't want to read what they write and that's why I can't
make any worthy suggestions as to which novel is recommended for
translation into Germany, for I don't read anything they
write.....
Maybe you can just select something from the Lu Xun literature prize winners' works
to try your hand? Good luck. Hei Ma
