        A Walk in Ridge of Yellow Sand at Midnight

明月别枝惊鹊，清风半夜鸣蝉。
稻花香里说丰年，听取蛙声一片。
Magpies terrible fly from branches under the moon bright.
The cicadas are crying while breeze is blowing at midnight.
Rice corns ear so well that the scent proves a good harvest.
Frogs croak  merrily all around in the Ridge of Yellow Sand. 
七八个星天外，两三点雨山前。
旧时茅店社林边，路转溪桥忽见。
There are a few stars in the sky in company with the bright moon.
Some raindrops  fell right now before mountains round the rice field.
The cottage wineshop near to the temple of Earth God I once visited 
Appears suddenly after the path turns at the bridge over the stream. 
【注释】
黄沙：黄沙岭，在江西上饶的西面。
别枝惊鹊：惊动喜鹊飞离树枝。
社林：土地庙附近的树林。社，土地神庙。乡社祭祀文娱场所。

Rice scented air tells the coming of a bumper year
In paddy field here and there croaks of frogs cheer

七八个星天外，两三点雨山前。
旧时茅店社林边，路转溪头忽见。
Scarce stars are strewn on the cloudy sky
Before the hills, scattered raindrops fly
Next to the temple and woods an inn used to be
Suddenly to it by creek a road turn leads me

The ricefields’ sweet smell promises a bumper year;
Listen, how frogs’ croaks please the ear!

Beyond the clouds seven or eight stars twinkle;
Before the hills two or three raindrops sprinkle.
There is an inn beside the village temple. Look!
The winding path leads to the hut beside the brook.
