Unit 1
苏珊(Susan)因车祸失去了双腿。有一段时间,她真不知如何面对自己再也不能行走的事实。
一天,苏珊在浏览书籍时,被一个真实故事吸引住了。那个故事生动地描写一个残疾(disabled)姑娘是如何成为一位作家的。苏珊读后深受鼓舞,决心尽可能多读书,而且,她还想写关于自己童年的故事。苏珊开始相信,她最终也会成为一个有用的人生活下去。
Susan lost her legs because of/ in a car accident. For a time,she
didn't know how to face up to the fact that she would never (be
able to) walk again.
One day, while scanning (through) books, a true story caught her
eye/ she was attracted by a true story. It gave a vivid description
of how a disabled girl became a writer. Greatly inspired, Susan
made up her mind to read as much as she could, and what's more, she
wanted to write stories about her own childhood. Susan began to
feel that she, too, would finally be able to lead a useful
life.

我认为总结一下学习英语的经验是值得一试的。这里,我想谈谈三个相关的问题。
首先,大量阅读应被视作学习过程中的重点,因为我们是通过阅读获取最大量语言输入的。其次,尽可能多背熟一些好文章也十分重要。一方面,死记硬背确实无甚裨益,但另一方面,在真正理解基础上的熟记肯定对我们有好处。大脑中储存了大量很好的文章,我们在用英语表达自己思想的时候,就会觉得容易多了。最后,我们应把所学到的东西用到实践中去,这是至关重要的。通过多读、多写、多听、多说,我们就能完成提高英语水平的任务。
