All the king’s men——The assassin Zhuan Zhu

吴国首都姑苏，今苏州市，位于江苏省东南太湖之滨，素以生产美女而闻名；梁朝伟太太刘嘉玲即来自苏州, 还有周迅等等。相传夏代有一位谋臣叫胥，胥不仅有才学，而且天文地理无所不通，由于助大禹治水有功，深受舜的器重，遂将吴地（江苏省）封给胥。从此，吴的大地上便有了“姑胥”之称。吴语中的“胥”和“苏”两字相近，年代一久，“姑胥”就渐渐演变成“姑苏”了。In the capital city of Wu, Gusu, today’s Suzhou city, is located at the Taihu (the Tai lake), in Southeastern Jiangsu province. It’s been well-known for producing beautiful girls；Tony Leung’s wife Carina Liu is from Suzhou, so is Zhou Xun. It was said that there lived an official named Xu in the Xia dynasty. He was not only capable and talented, but also well-versed in science, literature and stuff. Xu was highly recognized by emperor Soon because he helped Dayu overcome and solve the flood problems of the Yellow river. Therefore, he was bestowed the land of Wu (Jiangsu province) and Wu has had this “Guxu” since. In the Wu dialect, the pronunciation of Xu and Su are quite similar. When time passed by, Guxu was gradually becoming Gusu. Now, Gusu is the historic name of Suzhou city.

姑苏城南西区，在一房子里……

In the west community of southern Suzhou city, in a house…

专诸母：’诸儿，娘跟你说过多少遍了？不许随便跟人打斗。’

专诸母亲咳了几声，继续说：’可你就是偏偏不听。’

Zhuan Zhu’s mother: ‘My son, how many times have I told you? You’re not supposed to fight with anyone, anytime and anyplace. ‘ Zhuan Zhu’s mother coughed a little and went on saying: ‘But you just won’t listen.’

专诸：’娘，并非孩儿随便打架，只是聂铁那伙人太过份，逼得我非出手教训他们不可。’

Zhuan Zhu : ‘Mother, I don’t fight with anyone, anytime and anyplace. But that Nie Tie went too far. I could not help but throw a few punches and teach them a lesson.’

专诸母：’诸儿，不管怎么样，他日遇上这等事，能躲的话就躲吧。’

Zhuan Zhu’s mother: ‘My son, no matter what, when something like this happens some other time, do you best to avoid it.’

专诸：’是，娘。’

Zhuan Zhu: ‘Yes, mother.’

专诸母：’别多说了，你去忙你的吧，为娘想歇一歇。’

Zhuan Zhu’s mother: ‘Okay, let’s call it a day. Go take care of your own business. I have to take a rest.’

专诸：’好的，您就歇一歇吧，娘。’

Zhuan Zhu: ‘Very well. Get some rest, mother.’

专诸带着闷闷不乐的心情，从家里走了出来。正欲走出家门时，他望见不远处站着一个女子，也望着他。专诸回望了一眼，那女子先愣了一下，之后就消失无踪。

Zhuan Zhu went out his house, feeling upset and gloomily unhappy. As he walked out of the gate, he saw a girl standing from a distance. And she was looking at him. Zhuan Zhu looked back. The girl was startled a little, then she disappeared into thin air.

专诸：’那个姑娘……好像在哪儿见过……是在大街上吗？很面善啊。’

Zhuan Zhu: ‘The girl…Feels like I’ve seen her somewhere. Was it on the street there? She does look familiar.’

专诸与那姑娘的事乃是后话，镜头一转，来看伍子胥。

Zhuan Zhu and this girl are going to be another story. Now,

change of scene, let’s see what Wu-zi Xu was up to.

伍子胥：’黎达啊，专诸之事，你办得怎么样了？’

Wu-zi Xu: ‘Lida, how’s it going with Zhuan Zhu?’

黎达：’回大人，小的已经查得专诸的住处，在城南的西区。大人，要小的安排会面时间吗？’

Lida:’Sir，I’ve found out where Zhuan Zhu lives. It’s in the west community, in the southeast part of the city. Would you like me to arrange a time to meet, sir?’

伍子胥：’不急, 我另有他想。’

Wu-zi Xu: ‘Not in a hurry. I’ve come up with something else.’

夏日炎炎，姑苏，伍子胥走在一个小巷里。忽地，有两个蒙面大汉向伍员冲了上来。子胥一看，自知不妙。也太快了，其中一个汉子已把伍子胥按倒在地上，另一个开始搜其身。

In the heat of summer, Gusu, Wu-zi Xu was taking a stroll in a back lane. Suddenly, there were two masked guys rushing towards Wu Yuan. He got a notion that this was going to be bad. It was a bit way too fast. One of the men had held Wu-zi Xu down. And the other was already searching his body.

蒙面汉一：’哈哈，我都说了，这厮果然是个富裕人家，我没猜错吧？’

Masked man one: ‘Ha, ha! Told ya. This bloke is no doubt doing well. I guessed right, didn’t I？’

蒙面汉二：’没有啊！你真是妙算，快！抢光他身上的银子，然后就撤！’

Masked man two: ‘No, you didn’t. Your guess was marvelous. Hurry! Let’s take all his money and get out of here.’

两个蒙面贼子说到做到，正要飞身离开之际，伍子胥大喊：’贼子别逃！’

The two masked ‘marauders’ did what they’d said. When they were about to leave there, Wu-zi Xu screamed: ‘You muggers, hold it right there.’

那两个贼子那会听你的啊？钱已到手，他们抽身就跑。正当两人快要拐弯时，一个巨拳已打在其中一人的脸上，碰！那人昏厥了。另一个贼子，说起来也不是白混的，立马飞扑而上。出拳者正是专诸，一眼便看见贼子中路大开，一腿踢出，中！那贼子竟然发不出一丝痛苦的叫声，只懂得按着肚子。

Why should the two snatch thieves listen to you, huh? Now they got the ‘loot’, they were taking flight. As they turned into a corner, a huge punch landed on one of the men’s face. Boom! The man passed out. As for the other thief, he should’ve been around. Right off, he made a dart…The one who threw the punch was nobody else but Zhuan Zhu. At once, he could detect a vast empty space in middle of the thief. So he gave a kick~ Got it! The thief didn’t even know how to utter a scream of pain. All he knew was holding his belly, tightly.

专诸取回被抢的银子，归还了伍子胥。此时，两个铁铮铮的汉子，正视着对方。的确啊，专诸比伍子胥要高大一些，也比较黝黑。Zhuan Zhu got back the money taken, and he returned it to Wu-zi Xu. At the very moment，the two firm-minded and unyielding tough guys took a look at each other, eyeball to eyeball.
