【大中小学生通用记单词小窍门】universe和university

我是在记忆英语单词的同时顺便自学拉丁语、希腊语、法语、意大利语、西班牙语、德语、荷兰语的。这些语言其实都属于一个大家庭，主流是相同的，区分多数是细节上。这些语言除了希腊语和俄语，用的都是拉丁语字母，很好懂的。希腊语和俄语字母只要利用英语中的十几个常用的源自希腊语的单词也可以轻松搞定。我感觉这是英语快速入门的最简单最好玩的好办法。按照我的方法记单词，中国的大中小学生完全可以把《新概念英语》3、4册和《大学英语（精读）》5、6册作为英语入门教材。不相信的朋友，欢迎和我们一起试一试。我们的所有文章都免费发在网上供大家自由选读。

上一节，我们在记忆uniform时认识了uni-（表“一），这一节，我们利用它来记忆一组用到它的单词。

universe[5ju:nivE:s]n.宇宙, 世界, 万物, 领域（uni+vers+e）

源自 古法语 univers。

注：英语单词universe实际上法语单词univers后加-e构成。目的是为了避免一个以s结尾的单词被误认为复数。英语中的mouse, these，house, goose结尾的e都是这个作用。

【法语】univers  [ynivɛr]n. m. 全球，全世界，世界，天下（uni+vers）

源自拉丁语universus——去掉结尾表“性别”的后缀-us。

【拉丁语】universus：universus, universi n. m. whole world; all men (pl.), everybody, the mass（uni+vers+us）

vers-拉丁语词根，源自拉丁语动词vertere的过去分词versus——去掉结尾表“性别”的后缀-us。

【拉丁语】verto: verto, vertere, verti, versus v. turn, turn around; change, alter; overthrow, destroy;(vert+ere)

-ere拉丁语动词后缀之一。

把英语单词universe结尾的e去掉（实际上就成了法语单词univers）再加上名词后缀-ity就是university。

university[7ju:ni5vE:siti]n.(综合)大学（uni+vers+ity）

源自拉丁语形容词universus——结尾的-us换成-al

【德语】universal  adj. 普遍的。广泛的。通用的。一般的。全部的。（uni+vers+al）

【意大利语】universale [I.]agg. (1) 宇宙的, 万有的：（uni+vers+al+e）

【西班牙语】universal  adj. overall; world, universal（uni+vers+al）

英语中，用到uni-的单词有很多，认识它您就可以十分轻松地掌握unit, unite, unity, United States，unicorn（独角兽, 麒麟）。
