我们重点学习atom：

在教材上我们可以了解：原子是组成元素的最小单元。由原子核和围绕原子核运动的电子组成。原子在化学反应中不可分割。

原子的英文名是从希腊语转化而来，原意为不可切分的。很早以前，希腊和印度的哲学家就提出了原子的不可切分的概念。17和18世纪时，化学家发现了物理学的根据：对于某些物质，不能通过化学手段将其继续的分解。19世纪晚期和20世纪早期，物理学家发现了亚原子粒子以及原子的内部结构，由此证明原子并不是不能进一步切分。

如果您是把atom分解成a,t,o,m去记忆，很遗憾地告诉您：您在短时间掌握英语的可能性几乎为零。也可以说，按照这样的方法记忆单词，至少在30年之内您无法真正解决单词问题。最大的可能是终身都无法进入英语世界的大门。门都进不去，更谈不上应用英语了。

因为就算您可以通过这种方法“背”下五万单词，但您依然不大可能读懂英语文章。理由是您根本就没有读懂单词，而读不懂单词的人也不可能读懂英语文章。

atom由两部分组合：

1、前缀a-，否定前缀

2、tom，源自希腊语tomos，意思是“切”，相当于拉丁语中的sect和英语中的cut。

atom的字面意思是“不可分割的”。在早期，人们认为“原子”是组成物质的最小单位。

小朋友们可能都学习一个人名Tom：

Tom n. 汤姆（男子名）

我们再来大概熟悉一下molecule：

源自法语molécule。您如果掌握了英语中的molecule也就基本上可以认识法语中的molécule。英国曾经被法国人统治几百年，英语单词受法语的影响比比皆是（can be found everywhere）。而法语是拉丁语系的成员，有不少的拉丁语单词通过法语进入英语。

mole源自拉丁语，表“小块”

-cul是指小后缀，请复习particular, masculine（阳性）

-e实际上是法语中的表“阴性”的后缀。

请您一定也不要把hydrogen和oxygen分解成字母去读记。您至少应该看到它们都包括gen：

oxygen[5CksidVEn]n.[化]氧（oxy+gen）

oxy-表示“氧”之义
