13.3 Refine Your Feel(炼“觉”)

*** Short-Putt Drills (短推练习)

Short putts –of less than about five feet-are the most common shorts in golf. If you can’t make your short putts, the game won’t be much fun and you won’t score well. Many of these putts are missed because they are rolled at a speed that is either too slow or too fast.

5英尺内的推杆是球手们经常要遇到的,如果短推经常失误,成绩就会大受影响,这样的情况下高尔夫就不可能是快乐运动。短推失误的原因往往在于速度。

Drill1Closed-Eyes Drill (闭着眼睛练习)

The purpose of this drill is to learn the feel of the three-foot-putt stroke, which supplies optimum power to roll putts consistently through the lumpy donut without producing lip-outs. Drop three ball three feet from the hole and putt them in. then move 90 degree around and do it again, and again, and again, until you circle the hole and make 12 in a row. If you miss any putt, start over until your hole all 12 consecutively.

Next choose one of the four positions you putted from before, and starting there, roll three putts in from three feet. But this time with your eyes closed. If you miss one with your eyes closed, putt three more with your eyes open, to reestablish your feel, then repeat three with your eyes closed again. If you miss one again, repeat the cycle of six putts until you make them all.

这个练习是针对3英尺内的推杆,以合适的力度推球滚过洞杯外一圈“嘟嘟面包圈”,但不要过速使得球跃出洞杯。距洞三英尺推三个球,然后绕洞90度,三个球,继续,直到能连续推进12个球,如果错失一个球,就从头开始。

*** Drill 2: Getting-Longer Drill (步步为营练习)

To start, place four ball three feet form a hole, one of each the 3:00, 6:00, 9:00, and 12:00 o’clock positions, and putt them in. Every time you make all four putts, move a foot further away and putt them all again. Each time you putt this drill, try to improve on your previous record for how far away from the hole you can get without missing. Always begin at three feet and move progressively outward, and always use your rhythm, routine, and ritual on each putt. As always, notice how far past the hole your misses roll. By doing so, the Getting-Longer Drill will quick teach you that dying putts to the hole is as bad as jamming them too hard and causing lip-outs. Again, the goal is to groove a feel for the optimum speed for holing putts.

*** Drill3: Pure-Push Drill (纯推)

The Pure-Push Drill is designed to help you learn the feel of keeping your putter-face square to the Aim-line on your follow-through. The Drill is the same as the Closed-Eyes Drill above, except you don’t make a backswing in your stroke; just push the ball towards the hole directly from the address position of your putter. Make 12 push-putts in a row with your eyes open, then push in three in row with your eyes closed. After doing this drill a few times, you will begin to notice the similarity in feel between your finishes in the Pure-Push Drill and your other short-putt drill, with your putter-face square to you Aim-line.

纯推“练习的目的是体会送杆时杆面方正于瞄准线的感觉。除了没有上杆之外,同上面闭眼练习一样,直接把杆头从站位时的位置朝洞口推去12次睁着眼睛,然后三次闭着眼睛。通过练习,比较 “纯推”与短推送杆杆面与瞄准线方正的感受的同样性。

*** Drill4: Back-of –Hole Drill (撞洞杯)

Many golfers baby their short putts, afraid to roll them firmly to the hole because they worry about not making the putt coming back if they miss. But a short putt is particular susceptible to the green imperfections you can’t see – footprint, the lumpy donut, etc. – because in addition to having to roll fairly slow through the lumpy donut, it’s also probably sit in a footprint that wants to knock it off-line even before it get started. If you find it hard to roll your short putt firmly, you need to work on this simply drill for 15 minutes once a week until you see improvement.

The drill is performed by putting three-footers from the four different quadrants around the holes firmly as possible without the ball popping out of the hole. Of course, I don’t recommend stroking the ball this hard on the course, but if you consistently roll your short putts weakly to the cup, you need to experience the other side of the mountain during practice, so you can settle in the middle of the course.

很多球手在短推时手软,唯恐过了回推不进。果岭上一些看不见的痕迹对短推影响很大,鞋印,“嘟嘟面包圈”,等等,在球努力要越过“嘟嘟面包圈”进入洞杯之前,滚动轨迹上的鞋印就有可能已经让球偏离了。每个星期,每次15分钟,做这个练习,直到自己克服推短不够坚决的问题。

四个球,放在洞杯的四个象限,距洞三英尺,每次推球让球撞到洞杯的后壁,但是不至于弹出洞杯。要注意的是在场上不能用这个速度。如果在短推上总是有这个手软问题,那么尝试另一种极端的推杆方式,这样能中和场上的弱推。

*** Drill5 17-Inches-Past Drill (过洞17英寸练习)

The 17-inches-past speed is good for putts of all lengths, even the very short ones.

To establish and maintain your feel for the perfect speed on short putts, practice this drill from time to time. This drill is to be done by yourself on the green, using the Phony-Hole and a dime placed 17-inches behind the hole. Take three balls and putt them from different distances, try to roll all of them over the cup. Hold your finish and watch carefully how close each ball finishes to the dime. If you don’t have a good feel for how far 17 inches, half the length of your putter is close enough. If you roll your short putts the proper speed, you won’t have any trouble making them.

*** Lag-Putt Drill (避免三推的练习)

Avoiding the three putts is simple: Just lag your first putt into a six-foot circle around the hole; that will leave you a shorter-than-three-foot putt, which you can handle.

“Sure,” you say, “it’s simple if you can roll your putts within three feet of the cup, but that’s what I can’t do!” If that’s what you are thinking, it’s time you change the way you look at long putts. Look at me, holding the flagstick in a six-foot-diameter hole. I’m sure you’d bet that you could make every putt on every green if the holes were that big.

But avoiding three-putting is as simple as putting into six-foot hole. So if it’s so simple, why do you still three-putt? Not because it’s so difficult, but because you don’t properly practice lag putting enough, and you don’t have good feel or touch for your long putts.

避免三推很简单,第一推推到围绕洞杯直径6英尺的范围内,接下来是一个3英尺的短推,肯定不会错失洞口

可能有人会叫起来,三英尺当然不会错失,问题是我如何才能第一推推到那个6英尺的范围内。接下来我们要解决的正是这个问题。看看下图,我持着旗杆站在一个直径为6英尺的大洞杯中,这样大的洞杯,恐怕在任何果岭,大家都不会错失的。所以,避免三推就是把第一推推入这个大洞杯,这个不难,那么为什么还有三推出现呢?那是因为正确练习不够或者长推的距离“感”和“觉”不太好。

To get the feel for lagging long putts close, try our “Lag-Putt Drill”, which establish three reference distances putts-40, 50, and 60feet- that you practice again and again. Every time you do this drill, putt from different angles and slopes, but always form 40, 50, and 60 feet to a hole. You will find that once you being to build confidence from these three distances, other distances will becomes easier, too.

Start by walking off your three distances and marking them with tees. Putt three balls from 40 feet, followed by three from 60, and three from 50. Do this circle twice more, then end with three putts from 50 feet that stop within your huge six-foot imaginary hole around real hole. You haven’t completed the drill until you get the last three in a row to finish in the six-foot circle.

As your continue to play this drill, those last three good lags will become easier and easier, and you’ll come to be dissatisfied on the course with lag putts that leave you second putts longer than three or four feet.

这个练习能让球手避免三推。三种距离,反复练习。绕着洞,不同的“线” 405060码的球洞之间距离。一旦对这三种距离有了感觉,其他的距离也就好办了

在距洞405060码处标上tee40码推三个球,60码推三个球,然后是50码,按这样的次序推两遍。当最后50码三个球都推入了以洞杯为圆点的6英尺直径的大洞杯,这个练习才结束。

坚持这个练习,当最后的三个球进入大洞杯变得越来越容易时,让第二推在34英尺的范围内的要求就不是难事了。
