Im so glad to share my experience on major choosing. Now Im a bachelor in biological science, but in future I will pursue my master degree in another major. Thats comparative literature. A big change, right? Effectively, theres also a big change on how I made these two choice.

When I just graduated from high school, I was innocent knowing little about university and so many majors. My choice was mainly based on my previous impression on every subject in high school. What was generally said that liberal arts are useless also influenced a lot.

Whereas my second choice is far more deliberate which takes a more broad perspective. After auditing courses in different departments, skimming through diverse monographs and served various internships, I learn much more about research content and paradigm of different majors. Meanwhile it comes more clear to me that what I really have passion for and be good at.

This time, three factors are dominant to be taken into consideration. First, what issues appeal to me the most. Second, the thought pattern that Im accustomed to adopting when assimilating and processing information. Thinking about these two things help me find the suitable discipline that I can engage in for long term. Third, the imaginable gain after learning a major. This gain might be intangible but definitely necessary to personal development.

As for suggestions, I sincerely suggest you spend time thinking about what kind of life you crave and determine to lead. Widely observe, communicate and carry out, finally figure out the daily concrete things that people are doing in certain field.

I hope my sharing is helpful for you and wish you all find your suitable major!
