一、Analysis of the teaching material

    This lesson is from Book 1 of Grade 6 Unit 6 Ancient stories : Reading Period 1 . First, this unit plays an important role in module 3, it’s the further study of culture and history in different countries. Second, this lesson can lead students to know the history of other countries by reading the passage. It can not only arouse students’ interest in learning the world history, students can also learn something useful from the passage.

二、Analysis of the students

   The students of grade 8 have already learned many English words, they may read the passage easily, but it is difficult for them to find out the detailed information or retell the main idea of the story. So in this class, I will pay more attention to students’ reading ability:skimming and canning.

三、Teaching aims

Students can master the usage of the main words and phrases

Students can get the main idea of the story

Students can retell the story in their own words

Improve students’ ability of skimming and scanning

Educate students to think twice before they jump

Students can share their opinions about the story

Students can master the usage of the main words and phrases in the passage;

Students can get the main plot of the story

Students can retell the story in their own words

Students can share what they learn from the passage

七、Teaching procedures

Step 1 Greetings

Step 2 Warm-up and lead-in

    First: show some posters based on famous films such as 300

斯巴达300勇士角斗士。Ask students to talk about the film in pars.

Second: 1.Ask students to watch a video about the Trojan War and catch the main idea of the story.

 

3.  Ask some questions about the video.

  Q1: Do you know who won the war ? And how?

  Q2: what was the wooden horse made for?

Step 3 Before reading

Give some background information to students ,2.Guide them to know the main character ,the position and the leaders and so on of the war.

Step 4 While reading

    1.Fast-reading :Show some pictures about the Trojan War on page 82, let students skim the story and put the pictures in the correct order..

2.Play the tape and ask students to review the main idea of the story and let them pay attention to the pronunciation of the new words.

3.Read the passage aloud and then finish Exercise D1 on page 85.

4. Further reading: ask students to read the passage again and then answer the questions below about the six WH about the war.

When did the war happen?

Where did the war happen?

Who fought against each other?

How long did the war last?

Why did the War last so long?

How did the Greeks win at last?

Step 5 Post reading

Ask students to talk about the main plot of the story and then finish the short passage below.

Filling the blank with right forms!!!

Step 6 Summary

Have a summary on what the students learn by asking the following questions.

Q1: How did the Greeks win the war at last?

Q2: what do you think of the the Greeks and the Trojans?

Q3: What do you learn from the story?

Look before you leap (三思而后行)

We should use our mind to solve the problems when we in trouble.

Step 7 Homework

1.  Read the passage after the recording at least 3 times.

2.  Copy the new words and phrases

3.  Retell the story to you parents

九、Teaching reflection

1.  本节课课程设计主要采用PWP 阅读教学模式,环节之间过度自然,听说读写四种英语基本技能都有涉及,能有效提高学生的阅读能力。

2.  但课堂内容设计较多,有可能会因为学生的实际情况,出现内容讲授不完,或者各环节活动不能充分开展的现象。
