一些对未来充满信心和希望的精神科医师学员正在参加他们的第一堂课。学习的内容是极端情绪。

“只是为了确立一些情绪的对比界限。”教授对来自阿肯色州的学生说，“快乐的反面是什么？”

“悲伤。”学生说。

“那么，抑郁的反面呢？”他又问那位来自俄克拉荷马州的年轻女士。

“兴高采烈。”她说。

“先生，你来说。”他对来自德克萨斯州的年轻人说，“烦恼的反面又是怎样？”

The aspiring psychiatrists were attending their first class on emotional extremes。

“Just to establish some parameters。”Said the professor to the student from Arkansas，“What is the opposite of joy？”

“Sadness。”Said the student。

“And the opposite of depression？”He asked of the young lady from Oklahoma。

“Elation。”Said she。

“And you sir。”He said to the young man from Texas，“how about the opposite of woe？”

The Texan replied：“Sir，I believe that would be giddy-up。”
