Rachel: Well, that's different court, Ken. When you say someone is in court, you are talking about in a courtroom. So if you are going to court, you will be in court, maybe as a lawyer, a juror, or a witness.

Ken:    Oh, I get it! So in the article we are talking about the basketball court. We don't say a basketball player is "in court."

Rachel: Not unless he is in an actual courtroom. Instead, you would say: The basketball player is "on the court" or "off the court."

Ken:    Court可以表示室内球场，也可以表示courtroom(法庭）。所以介系词如果讲到in court/out of court/going to court,不加冠词，是指上法庭。今天课文讲的是on the court, off the court(在篮球场上）。 So what other sports play on a court?

Rachel: Well, most sports that have a net or a racket are player on a court. For instance, volleyball, tennis, handball and squash are all played on a court.

ken:    What about baseball, soccer or football?

Rachel: Those are played on a field.

Ken:    Oh, so do I play golf a golf field?

Rachel: No, you play golf on a golf course because you have to go though an actual course of nine to 18 holes to finish your game.
