习语as much…as意为“跟……到同一程度”,全句的意思是:人们一般认为,教学是一门科学,同时也是一门艺术。又如:It is as much our responsibility as yours.这是你们的责任,同样也是我们的责任。
 英语中有很多的as…as结构,如:as soon as, as far as, as long as, as many as, as good as, as much as等。接下来先从词性出发，了解一下as的具体用法。
as共有四种词性,如下：
一、作副词，意为“相同地”，“同样地”。
例如：They don’t have as many airplanes.
二、作连词时，
1. 引导时间状语从句
① 用于表示同一个人的两种动作交替进行,指“一边……,一边……”。例如:
The girl dances as she sings on the stage.
He looked behind from time to time as he went forward.
② 表示两个同步发展的动作或行为,译为“随着……”。例如:
As time went on / by, she became more and more worried.
As he grew older, he became more intelligent.
③ 表示两个短促行为或事件几乎同时发生。例如:
I thought of it just as you opened your mouth.
Just as the flying worm hit her face, she gave a loud cry.
2. 引导原因状语从句
As she has been ill perhaps she'll need some help.
3. 引导让步状语从句
注意：当as引导让步状语从句时，一定要用倒装，有以下三种形式：
(1). 形容词或副词+as+主语+连系动词be或实义动词。例如：
Rich as he is, he never spends a cent on clothes.
Much as I admire his courage, I don’t think he acted wisely.
(2). 名词+as+主语+连系动词be (注意句首的名词不带冠词) 。例如：
Child as he is, he knows a lot.
Boy as he was, he was chosen king.
(3). 实义动词原形+as+主语+助动词[如果没有助动词，则要加上一个do(does或did)]。例如：
Try as he may, he never succeeds.
Change your mind as you will, you will gain no additional support.
4. 引导方式状语从句，意为“如”，“像”，“按照……的方式”。如:
I want you to tell my friend your very interesting experience exactly as you have told it to me.
Remember, you must do everything as I do.
注意：like在非正式语体中可以有与as相同的用法。如：
I can’t sing like I used to.我不能像以前那样唱歌了。
He writes just like his brother did when he was young. 他现在写文章正像他哥哥年轻时写文章一样。
5. 引导比较状语从句,用于“as...as...或not so/ as...as...”中,前一个as是副词,后一个as是连词，意为“如(不如)…一样”。如:
(1). You hate her as much as I (=as I hate her).
(2). I don't speak English so/ as well as he does.
注意：句中连词as后面的代词实际是省略了与主句相同的部分，即例（1）可以写成You hate her as much as I hate her. 如果很明显就能看出所省略的部分，意义不会含糊不清时，在口语中也可以用代词的宾格形式。例：At your age you can’t expect to play football as well as me (= as I do).但例（1）就不能改I为me，改后意思就变为：You hate her as much as you hate me. 你恨她像恨我一样深；而原句的意思为：你恨她像我恨她一样深。

as...as...结构
此结构是同级比较，第一个as是副词，修饰形容词或其它副词；第二个as是连词，连接比较状语从句；前者连接比较方面，后者连接比较对象意为和......一样......。
例如：
He is as old as l(am).
【译文】他和我一样大。
【注释】第一个as后的old表示比较方面，第二个as后的I表示比较对象。
He used to be almost as well-off as his brother was.
【译文】他过去和他兄弟儿乎一样的富裕。
【注释】第一个as后的well-off，表示比较方面；第二个as后的his brother表示比较对象。
2.not as/as...as...结构
此结构是as...as...的否定形式，表示不像......那样......，强调后者（第二个as后的对象)胜于前者。在美国英语中，杏定常采用not so...as的形式。
例如：
People are not so genuine as they used to be.
【译文】人们不像过去那样真诚了。
The Chinese people are not so poor as many Americans imagine.
【译文】中同人不像许多美国人想象中那样贫穷。
3. not so much A as B 结构
从原理上讲，此结构和not as/so...as...是一致的（强调后者胜过前者），只不过多了 much (表程度），所以意义更加具体一些，可理解为与其......不如......。
例如：
He is not so much a doctor as a teacher.
【译文】与其说他是一个医生，不如说他是一个老师。
It wasn‘t so much that I disliked her as that I just wasn’t interested in the whole business.
【译文】与其说我不喜欢她，不如说我对整个事情根本不感兴趣。
The great use of a school education is not so much to teach you things as to teach you the art of learning.
【译文】学校教育的根本意义与其说是教给你东西，不如说是教给你学习的艺术。
注：此结构有时也可被改写成not...so much ...as...，意义不变。
例如：
The problem set for society is not the virtues of this group so much as its adequacy for its function.
【译文】社会要冋答的问题与其说是这一群体有无美德，不如说是他们是否胜任其 职责。
4. not so much as...结构
这是一个加强否定语气的结构，可理解为一个固定搭配，意为甚至没有......。
例如：
I don‘t so much as know his name.
【译文】我甚至不知道他的名字。
He has not so much as been to the capital of his country.
【译文】他甚至都没去过自己国家的首都。
We now pass through these electronic friskers(搜身器）without so much as a side way 着的）glance.
【译文】我们现在穿过这些电子搜身器时，甚至都不会斜视一眼。
5. as much...as...结构
从原理上讲，此结构和...结构是一致的，只不过多了 much(表程度），所以意义更加具体一些，可理解为和......（在同等程度上）一样...。 例如：
The gorilla remains as much a mystery as they used to be.
【译文】如同过去一样，大猩猩仍然是个谜。
He is as much an artist as a scientist.
【译文】他既是一位科学家也是一位艺术家。
lt’s as much a question as anything else.
【译文】它在很大的程度上是个问题。
注：此结构有时也可改写为...as much as...
例如：
The gorilla remains a mystery as much as they used to be.
It‘s a question as much as anything else.
6. as well as...结构
as well as...表示不仅......或和......，从比较的原理上讲，此结构后面的事物只是比较对象而已，而其前面的事物才是被强调的重点。
例如：
He is a teacher as well as a soldier.
【译文】他不仅是一名军人也是一名教师。
As well as food and drinks they collected women. (= They collected women as well as food and drink.)
【译文】他们不仅抢吃的、抢喝的，而且还抢女人。
As well as the danger from enemy action, people had to cope with a severe shortage of food,clothing and almost everything.
【译文】不仅仅是（除了）来自敌人的危险，人们还要必须应对食物、衣物等几乎一切物资的严重匮乏。
