Clinically, it
is quite
often to hear that
"I have pain everywhere but my doctor cannot find
anything wrong from laboratory studies so
far". Many of
these patients have a history of migraine headache
and irritable bowel syndrome. Some of these
patients had a lot of surgeries because of severe and constant
pain, most commonly including lumbar laminectomy,
cervical laminectomy, joints surgeries, abdominal laparoscopic
exploratory surgery, etc. As a patient to be
diagnosed as fibromyalgia, you have to be very
cautious about any
surgeries! Three medications
have been recommended for fibromyalgia: 1.
Savella; 2. Cymbalta; 3.
Lyrica. So far, however, no
medication is going to cure the fibromyalgia yet but
help patients to manage
their daily life.
The
following was adapted as quoted below.
Tender points in fibromyalgia
The 18 'tender points'
important for the diagnosis of fibromyalgia. Note the bilateral
symmetry of the labeled regions. Tenderness on palpation of at
least 11 of these sites in a patient with at least a three-month
history of diffuse musculoskeletal pain is recommended as a
diagnostic standard for fibromyalgia.
