徒步的起点是在山脚，在这里仰头就能看到虎穴寺在晨雾中隐约的身姿，看着不远，徒步的人都知道“望山跑死马”，从这里徒步上山到虎穴寺，往返9公里海拔升高900米，需要花四个小时左右。

虽然海拔有点高，但植被丰富茂密，给人提供充足的氧气，不会有高反的风险。

4月下旬，红色的高山杜鹃开的正艳，在漫山遍野的苍翠之中，特别显眼。

出了密林，就是上上下下的土路，在无数人踩踏之后，并不难走，连登山杖都不需要。

有时只要一抬眼就能看见虎穴寺，它与悬崖峭壁几乎结为一体，在清晨的云雾缭绕中，颇显神秘。

整个院落建筑由四个主殿堂和居住区域组成，依地势修建。梯形的白色建筑与金色屋顶看起来金碧辉煌，近距离看更加震撼。

虎穴寺处在绝壁之上，和苍翠的山谷对比鲜明。

从观景台再走一个深V字路线，便可抵达虎穴寺入口，先顺着阶梯往下，到达底部的峡谷，有一座小桥，左侧沿着峭壁有一个小瀑布。

在隐蔽的峭壁上居然还有一个庙，这个庙嵌在石壁之中，终年不见阳光，只能听到瀑布的奔腾之声，这是僧人们绝好的冥想修行之处，游人禁入。

过桥后拾阶而上就到了步道终点的虎穴寺。虎穴寺里面禁止拍照，佛堂的墙壁上那些细腻精美的壁画都留在心里了。

参观完毕，在虎穴寺的院子看对面陡峭的山坡上是我们走过的山路，走的时候不觉得，这么看，上上下下还是有些不容易的。

走小路一个小时就回到山下，在一片苹果树林中，遥望山上的虎穴寺。
