卢浮宫里的油画堪称世界一流的，从欧洲的文艺复兴开始，一直到巴洛克时期，再到18世纪、19世纪的浪漫主义、现实主义。文艺复兴早期的画受中世纪基督教文化的影响，以宗教形式出现，即圣经故事里的人物画为多，喜欢用金色来突出神圣和庄严，人物脸部虔诚，画面比较呆板，线条僵直，缺乏灵动。随着人文主义的逐渐抬头，画面开始注重人物的人性，一改早期的僵硬，有了很大的飞跃。平民市井、希腊神话、风景花果、人物故事等个性分明，色彩丰富，更具浪漫情怀......
