重复译法 

     汉语有个明显的特点，也是英语所少见的，就是同义词语的重复。这种重复在汉语修辞上称为反复，为的是突出某个意思，强调某种感情，以加强读者的印象。但是在许多情况下，并非出自修辞需要，而是语言本身所固有的。在翻译中，有时为了忠实于原文，不得不重复某些词语，否则就不能忠实地表达原文意思。这种反复使用某些词语的翻译方法就叫重复法。一般说来，重复法有三个作用：一是为了明确，二是为了强调，三是为了生动。

（一）为了明确

1．名词的重复

（1）重复作宾语的名词 

1)We should learn how to analyze and solve problems.

我们应学会如何分析问题、解决问题。               

2)A good play serves to educate and inspire the people.

一出好戏足以教育人民、鼓舞人民。

3)I had experienced oxygen and / or engine trouble.

我曾碰到过，不是氧气设备出故障，就是引擎出故障，或两者都出故障。

4)It is our duty to rebuild and defend our homeland.

重建家园和保卫家园是我们的职责。

（2）重复作表语的名词

1)Every single woman I ever know is a puzzle to me, as, I have no doubt, she is to herself .

我所认识的每一个女人对我来说都是一个谜，而且我毫不怀疑，她自己对她本人也是一个谜。

2)This has been our position — but not theirs.

这一直是我们的立场――而不是他们的立场。

3)Peter is your enemy as much as he is mine.

彼德既是你的敌人，又是我的敌人。

4)She became a millionaire — all by herself.

她成为一个百万富翁――一个白手起家的百万富翁。

（3）重复英语前置词短语中所省略的名词　重复使用前置词是英文的一大特点，并常常将第二个，第三个前置词前的名词省略，翻译成汉语时则往往要把此名词重复，以代替英语中的前置词。

1)Ignorance is the mother of fear as well as of admiration.    

无知是羡慕的根源，也是恐惧的根源。

2)The prisoners often got into argument with each other or with the guard.   

囚犯们经常彼此争吵，或者同看守争吵。

3)A government of and by and for exploiting class cannot possibly survive.    

一个为剥削阶级所占有，由剥削阶级所组成并为剥削阶级服务的政府是不可能存在下去的。

4)We caught a glimpse of the leading horses and of a horseman vanishing through the rain.   

我们扫了一眼最前面的几匹马，突然发现一个骑马的人消失在雨中。

（4）重复英语中作先行词的名词　英语定语从句常用关系词引导，它一方面代表定语从句所修饰的那个先行词（名词或代词），一方面在从句中担任一个成分。汉语中没有关系词，往往需要重复作这个先行词的名词。

1)My uncle was born in Beijing, which is the capital of China.    

我叔叔出生于北京，北京是中国的首都。

2)The issues of principles that divided the General Assembly in recent weeks were deeply felt and hard fought.    

大会在最近几周内因一些原则问题产生了分歧。对于这些原则问题，人们有很深的感觉，并且为解决这些问题作了艰苦的努力。

3)We are greatly inspired by the glowing success of the tremendous revolution, which is now changing the whole world.    

这场巨大革命的辉煌胜利使我们欢欣鼓舞，这个胜利正在改变着整个世界。

3) The children lived in terror of their stepfather, who had borne down on them so often and so hard that there was little left.

孩子们对他们的继父怕得要死，继父经常整他们而且整得很重，简直把他们整瘪了。

英文中有时会出现同位语，翻译时也可适当地重复先行词，例如：

4)Water can be decomposed by energy, a current of electricity.

水可由能量来分解，所谓能量也就是电流。

5) The President announced, with obvious relish, that the planes took off from “Shangri-La,” the fictional, remote retreat in the Himalayas.

这位总统洋洋得意地宣称，这批飞机是从“香格里拉”起飞的，而“香格里拉”是一个虚构的喜马拉雅山中的世外桃源。
